question about germination

  1. hello all,

when the root tip has sprouted from the seed and you put it into soil, do you then move it immediately under light to get the stem and leaves to come up?

  2. Not yet... you can if you want, it really makes no difference but you really don't need the light until it actually sprouts.

  3. Yes. Make sure your soil is pre-watered before sowing the delicate exposed root tip and if you have one, a heating mat will warm the soil to more suitable temps for root growth. Also you want to give the seed as much light as you can. If you're using cfl's then you can put them about 4-6 inches from the surface. You don't want too little light or when the seed does sprout, the stem will stretch and maybe collapse on itself needing a crutch for support.
