Hello! So my plants are around 40 days old and I've had this problem with fungus gnats several days. Now I've read that sand helps if covered on soil and the fungus gnats won't get back in. Here's what I did: I took damp sand from my garden and covered the soil COMPLETELY without any big holes. The gnats were crawling in the soil before I covered it and I didn't manage to get them out with Apple vinegar next to plants. AND THE QUESTION IS!!! Are they able to live and multiply under the sand where they can't get out nor in? Did I do correctly? PLEASE honest answers without joking!
The sand should basicalle suffocate them. Get one of those yellow glue fly strips to hang in there as well for the future
Sorry but you have only helped them to multiply. Fungus gnats ( scarad flies) are a nuisance thats for sure, but the flies solely arent the problem, in fact they themselves do no harm to the plant, its thier larvae which they lay the eggs under tge soil. They thrn once hatched proceed to munch on your'e girls roots. The yelkow traps wikk help to a degree but you need to flush the soil to kill the problem. However If you are only a week or so till you crop then I woukdny bother, but if you are weeks away from that then you need to adress this issue asap Sent from my SM-T210 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Hey! Thanks for the answer! I was wondering how do I flush the plants? Sorry, I'm first time grower. Would flushing kill my plants too? And how can I be sure of this method of yours? I really want to get rid of those damn things, but will you please guide me more specifically?
You can be sure cause it would be a rather cuntish thing to do by feeding BS lol Im sure you can buy a flush specifically for gnats. But there others that will do just as good. Me personally I use neem oil whenever I get them. Not had them in a while touch wood . Just follow directions on bottle of whatever you decide. If you move you're top layer if soil, only a couple of cm if you have a bad infestation and you look closely you will be able to see the tiny larvae.
