Question about Curing thanks in advance!

  1. I dry my buds around 58-60% humidity and as far under 70 as I can keep the room. Stems snap at around 10 days I jar and burp etc. I know I shouldn't but I like to sample my stuff early so my question is it's like say 5 curing and when I go to crumble between my fingers the bud is still too sticky on the inside mostly and ends up balling up and looking dark from the resin squishing.....as opposed to crumbling witht that silky feel. Should I maybe dry for a day more from now on or is this just still early in the cure and will dry even more as the cure goes on? Need to know how soon the weed should crumble nicely how far into cure

  2. Make sure the product is dry before placing in masons. When you place them in masons, you can keep them there for 5 days or 5 months. In the dark, in a cool place is best.
When I plan to smoke, I usually pull some out and let it dry so more for a night. It's pretty dry here, so the next day it usually busts up nicely in the buster.

  3. When you have your weed at 60% rh,in the jars and done, and you want to smoke, you need to air/ dry your nug a little for proper burn.

  4. Are you saying just until the cure is done? Or indefinitely

  5. When the weed is done curing the way you like it. Im done curing after burping for a month and at 60% rh.
As time goes on ,it'll need less air/ dry time.

  6. Ok I've had issues in the past even with snappy stems then jarring with boveda packs and burping....some batches had an awful taste....especially the smoke burning from the end of the bowl or joint would smell like burnt cardboard but the buds would look so good and smell good. Trying to get better at curing have had too much earthy tasting buds only a handful out of like 40 plants tasted good so far and was probably genetics mostly....not even me doing anything correctly. I am now curing without boveda packs and monitoring the humidity in each jar I got 60-62 so far. So they will get crispier as the cure goes on ? Thats what I like

  7. I thought the point of curing this whole time was so that you can take right out of the jar and smoke it are you saying you still have to dry them after that ?

  8. Yes ,keep them around 62% rh w/ bovedas for freshness.
    I do 7,7,7, dry n cure , approximately ,
    7 days, 70°, 70% rh.
When checking buds to start curing ,
give a bud a little squeeze, if it stays squooshed ,it's still wet, if it springs back, jar it and monitor it with rh meter, check 2x a day so it doesn't overdry. Jar little buds first.
Your bad tasting smoke was over dried I believe.
I vac seal my jars for storage and keep the storage box at 60°, 60% rh.
    So far ,it's working good.

  11. Are you supposed to cure WITh boveda packs or just use them to maintain after cured?

  12. My pleasure:)

  13. They're for maintaining rh after cure is done.

  14. yea, I dry my weed then I use the 55% packs in the mason jars. I then remove the weed I want to smoke and let it dry overnight.
I find 65% too moist for my liking. Many others agree.

and they don't even need to be Boveda.

  16. Yeah I have the 58's from boveda even that seems still borderline for me I like to be able to crumble in my fingertips........I should get some 55's

Buds look good! One more question I have got weed that just crumbles when you want to break it up and mad keef still stinks even and great taste.....why do so many people say that the quality or taste or smell goes away if too dry? Do they mean if you dry too much during the drying/curing process? Maybe its that weed that's cured right had the ability to dry out even more and retain the smell and flavor? I dont get how so many swear dry weed sucks when I feel like I get a more even smoke off it and even get more high

  17. It's about preserving trichomes for me. The weed drys out in jar over time. At what rh does it really start degrading? 54rh? And at what point is it safe from molding? 64rh?.

  18. some of the terpenes are volatile and will gas off if left in the open environment too long.
When I dry, I do it until the weed is bone dry or I have problems during the curing stage. The moisture gets trapped inside the plant material, so when you place it in the masons, the moisture finds equilibrium in the environment (ie. mason's smaller volume) and spreads out. When you burp it (~1/2 hour or so), the excess moisture is released.
again, you want to trap some of the moisture and let it do it's thing, but if it dries in an open environment, you will gas off the terpenes. Also, oxidation can occur to some of the cannabinoids (ie. THC or CBD, etc).
I don't have that problem in a properly sealed mason, although, most of the cannabis I have is gone within a year. The picture I posted above was dried and then stored in a mason using the 55% pack and has retained smell and moisture. I still prefer to dry a bud out for a while before breaking it up and smoking it because it's still too sticky for the buster.
