Question about CFL Lighting

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by EssenceOfPhilosophy, Mar 8, 2016.

  1. So I plan to buy a tall cardboard box from home depot to build a grow box. I'm assuming foil would be good enough as the reflective material? But the real issue I have is the lighting, I know next to nothing about it. I know I need a 6500k to veg before I take the plants to the great outdoors but that's it. I'll be vegging 5 Master Kush plants from Nirvana. So what lights shall I use? Like 6 or 8 60w 6500k CFL's on y splitters? Thanks in advance!

  2. I'm just going to pretend you're not seriously planning on growing inside of a cardboard box. But if you intend on doing it right, yes 100-150w 6500k cfls are cheap to buy and cheap to run ($9 per on amazon) Use these to veg. Buy the same in 2500k for flower. I would recommend MH or HPS lights but we dont want you burning down you cardboard palace now do we?

  3. Hey the cardboard grow box has been done. But yea I've realized by now the cardboard box isn't the best idea thanks. I'm flowering outdoors.

  4. Oh nice. Thats like what i do. I veg in a greenhouse and cause i live in new england and our daylight hours are still short til about may i use cfls for additional lighting. I have them on for about 3 hours in the morning and for about 3 hours once the sun passes the greenhouse. 40w 6500k 150w equivalent. I put 2 above each plant with an adjustable length pendant socket. Theyre in the greenhouse for about a month then they finish veg and flower outside. Keep those lights as close as you can to the plant. And dont be afraid to tie some branches down. Ull need that to make up for them stretching once they go outside. Look into Autoflowering plants if you havnt already.
