Question about can filter

  1. Ok so i am new to indoors, my buddy gave me a can filter. He has had it for a couple years How often do i need to replace the activated charcoal? The charcoal in the filter now is shaped like pencil lead, do i have to go find that same charcoal or can i use the charcoal that i already have for my fish tank? (the charcoal for my fish tank are small irregular sized rocks)

  2. Depending on how much it has absorbed, generally they say filters last 6mo-1yr. After that I would replace the carbon to make sure it works well still. I have heard that these absorb water over time as well, that would surely shorten it's lifespan if it is in a humid environment.

Yea, just try to get lots of carbon in that space and it will work well enough, not sure how much different pieces would perform over one big carbon chunk.
