Question about a type of lights ?

  1. K . So i mounted two fixtures up top and I am putting two 300 watt cfl gigantic lights in them . They equal to about 600 watts . Is this going to be enough for veg and flowering or should I order 2 or 4 more ? I know this probably would be over kill but I'll all for it ... Just need some good advice . Ordering some lowryder kush and maybe some humbolt . But I also need a suggestion on which medical strain grows smoothest in the hydroponic buckets ? Oh yeah .. Grow area is 2 feet tall by 1 and a half feet wide with 2 3.5 gallon bubbler buckets home made . 2 light fixtures with 2 x 300 watts and 2 fans . Spray on reflective white coating to maximize the light on the inside of the container ... Post yall some photos later...

  2. im using 400 watts mh/hps lights really bright and hot and got white widow which is really smooth also blackberry bluedream and diablo og but having trouble wit diablo og and its in a small closet 2ft deep 3 ft wide 6ft7' tall and this light is way to much

  3. big difference i've been told between cfl and hps bro ... :)

  4. Lol, No light is way too much, are you kidding? No light approaches the power of the sun. So the only reason a HPS light would be too much for a grow area is if it generated too much heat and you just could not control your temps. Then, yes, I can understand. But not because its too bright. Thats just funny.

I use a 400w HPS in my tiny little DR80 tent (32" x 32" x 63"), thats smaller than your space, and I wish I had a 600W in there. Got a cool tube for my 400W and my temps stay right at 72-77 degrees.

  5. Well , last time I did a grow of low ryders ... Only 1 plant made it and I used about 10 cfl's maybe 12 at 65 watt equivalents , only in different spectrums .. and still got jack for my efforts .. I got small hard rocky buds and a quarter ounce only .... I am just trying to see how much better it could be with a higher wattage light versus a bunch of little itty bitty ones ... u know ?

  6. Not sure hydro is the right section for it, but I'll chime in.

I have 3 400w equivs, about 315w actual watts of light. Fine for a scrog or small growing indicas. Growing an 80% sativa, problems. Theres no light penetration. You can do CFL's, but you still neet to have the right spectrum for each cycle.

    Multi/Daylight/daylight
Multi/2700k/2700k (red spectrum, AKA soft white some times)

You can grow with CFL's, just want to optimise your lighting output to veg/flowering. Also, don't get too tall, Scrog if an option, as CFL's don't get light penetration. (My 6 ft sativa told me so :p )

  7. prenetration ? u mean to the chloroform inside the plant ? or wut ? my goodness if i knew what books a botany major used in college i would go buy them right now ... ughh..

  8. Mad hatter, by light penetration he means the light needs to be closer to the plant because cfl's don't "throw" their lumens as far or as efficient as hps.

A way to combat this with cfl's is to use multiple mounting spots and bulbs spread evenly around/in the plants.
