Q&A: Home from the hospital.

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by SNiPerXP, Nov 3, 2012.

  1. Hi everybody, I have finally returned home after being in the hospital for almost 5 days. Here's the situation:

My brother and I were in a pretty bad car accident Monday morning.
My left lung collapsed (pneumothorax) and I've had a chest tube in me since that Monday morning.
I've also been diagnosed with scoliosis since I was 13/14, so naturally my back has been in sever pain with spasms shooting from my left shoulder blade.
The pills they've been giving me (percocet, vicodin, valium, oxycodone) make me quite irritable and only lowers the pain a tad, unlike potent cannabis. However, one of the nurses said it's absolutely important not to smoke. He didn't specify though whether he meant smoke in general or just the disgusting chemical-filled cigarettes which I already decided to quite after all of this.

So here are my questions: Do I need to quite smoking weed forever? If not, how long should I wait since the pneumothorax to smoke?

If I do start smoking cannabis again I already know I'll pack lighter bowls/take smaller hits. I would just take it orally, but I can't afford to. Orally I need probably a gram to last the day, smoking maybe 0.3 grams as a hit or two will get me medicated. One more point is when I wake up in the morning with extreme spasms, I can quickly smoke and get rid of them unlike the pills which take at least 30 minutes. Please let me know if I left anything out that is relevant.

  2. Buy a half ounce. Throw one quarter in a batch of brownies, that will keep you good for at least a week. Then after they're gone, make another batch. Shit's cheap.

  3. That would mean I'd be spending double what I usually spend a month, which I already said I can't afford to do. A half will last me a month when smoked, rather than two weeks if baked.

I really do appreciate your help, but I can't spend $400 a month on cannabis for now. I have new obligations from the situation that resulted in my pneumothorax.

  4. One word bro: EDIBLES! :D

  5. Get a vaporizer! They use less, are easier on the lungs, and the left-over AVB from vaping are still useful! You can blenderize it and add it to edibles, make canna-oil or other extracts. And then there are capsules. My online friend "Old Hippie" had an "interesting" experience with some well-packed AVB capsules! lol

You might consider making a quick tincture. It isn't hard.

Blenderize some bud to powder - I have a little mini-blender top that works well for this.

Add some of the highest proof vodka you can find- one of the local liquor stores had those little airline-type bottles of Everclear for just a couple bucks. Mix the vodka and powder and blenderize again. Pour it in a jar with a good lid. Let it settle. Shake it up and let it settle.

The next day, give it another shake and settle, then pour the liquid into a dark glass dropper bottle (try the local health food store- usually a buck or two). Place a dropper-full in your mouth and roll it around for a few minutes...

The THC will be absorbed through the thin skin under your tongue. It's not quite as fast as smoking, but faster than edibles. It is also very discrete.

  6. So is taking a small hit or two of cannabis out of a clean bong is gonna cause complications? I'm sorry it's just none of you are answering my questions and the pills aren't helping with my spasms right now.

I'm currently under 21, so perhaps I could eventually get some everclear from a friend but not as of now. So please, not to be rude, but could one of the veterans here actually answer my question? I'm just in so much pain right now, but I'm not willing to take a small hit or two if it means another week in the hospital.

I still do appreciate you guys watching out for my health and trying to help me long-term, I'm usually not this irritated. I just can't sit/stand/walk/lay down for too long without getting obnoxious spasms. I'm not looking for some empathetic pothead to tell me to just do it, but I want some logical explanations to why I could/couldn't continue to smoke small amounts.

  7. You don't need to give it up forever! :hello:

Tobacco is poisonous. It slows healing.

Cannabis, on the other hand, heals! However, since your lung was injured, actually smoking doesn't seem to be the smartest thing to do. Smoke of any type hurts your lungs. So using a vaporizer would be a bit wiser.

THC activates the CB1 receptors. The number of CB1 receptors increase during the healing of wounds. Your body wouldn't go to the hassle of making a bunch of new receptors in an injured area, unless there was a darn good reason! It would seem logical that activating the CB1 receptors should help healing along! :)

The CB1 receptors also are how cannabis helps kill pain.

If you find the abstracts interesting, click that first link in my sig for hours of reading about cannabis! There are enough news articles about the studies, that you don't need a college degree to use my List!

    Hope you feel better soon!

  8. All respect bro you're asking a bunch of pot heads if you can smoke after a nurse said not to. Doubt many here are in medical school. Only thing we can say is try it and find out bro

  9. One of my buddies got his lung collapsed too, the doctors said the same thing that its important that he doesn't smoke. He didnt care and kept smoking all day, its been 2 years and hes still alive. But i would follow the doctors recommendation, and find a safer way to get high.
Im sure a small bong hit wouldn't cause that much of a problem, now and then.

  10. call your doc and ask i talk to all my docs bout weed lol even like chiropractors nd derms

  11. Thanks to everyone for all the love and wisdom, I tried a couple small hits with ice, but I definitely could feel it affecting my lungs. It helped the back pain, however was overall an unpleasant experience. I've been getting into baking my marijuana as I've come to find that when processed the right way, you actually need to ingest less cannabis than if smoked. It also is producing a much more medicinal effect and I'm very happy with my new found hobby in the kitchen. Perhaps this accident was meant to raise my self-awareness of health.
You seem to know your stuff, I really appreciate people like you who take the time to teach the slightly naive such as I. It has always been my understanding that cannabis lowers the immune system, so I assumed that it wouldn't exactly heal me. Just thought it acted as a short-term pain killer. Although it may explain why I had a quick recovery in the hospital...

Perhaps in the future if my lungs do heal to normal function again, I will vaporize with friends just to enjoy the experience of sitting in a circle smoking and chatting. Thanks for the positive vibes, I feel like everyday I'm a little bit back to my normal self. :hello:

  12. I wouldn't smoke if I suffered a collapsed lung, at least not for a while. Indulge yourself in edibles!

  13. I had a pneumothorax from a wreck a few years ago, freaking horrible (and getting the chest tube hurts like a bitch!). I tried once about a month afterwards, trust me, it hurts like hell and it's not worth it. I started smoking again three or four months later, and from then to today I haven't really had any problems. Though I do get this weird pain when I take a really big hit or just a really deep breath, but otherwise, smoking like before.

For now, skip it. Make some good edibles and you'll be feeling better soon :D

  14. wow, good luck with your recovery man
