Putting together a budget closet grow setup, please share your opinions. Thanks

  1. To start off, the seeds I will be using are Bubbelicious Bubblegum and Jack Hurrer. The closet that will be used is approximately 5.5 feet x 8 feet. I was only intending on using a 3x3 section of the closet and growing 2-4 plants. I was planning on getting one 400Watt HPS Lighting system but then became concerned about it being to much for my closet space. Would this be an issue, and if so what flourescent setup would you recommend? I might get a grow tent later on but to start off they will be in the bare closet. To eliminate odors i planned on starting off with a 3lb Carbon filter system. Would the combination of this and the use of incense when i have guests over hide the scent of the plants? I'm still debating between soil and hydroponics, was hoping to hear from you guys first and see what would be better for the space I'm working with. Thanks for any information or tips you might be able to provide. Please if you recommend a soil or hydro setup, explain what materials i should use to construct, maintain, and feed the plants. Thanks again

  2. Whoa! that's alot of questions but lucky for you I have the time to answer. A 4x4 space screams 600 hps watts to me but you could get away with a 400 watter I guess. Just make sure you can control the heat in the closet. Ideal temps are between 72-78 degrees. I think you will need something bigger than a 3 lb carbon filter. Maybe something like 12" around and 2 ft tall. that should control all of your smells. I use soil (so that's what I recomened) but other people swear buy hydro. The problem with hyro is if your power goes out your plants could die. Don't feed your plants anything but Advanced Nutrients. For grow(http://www.advancednutrients.com/landing_pages/sensi_grow_landing.html)and bloom(http://www.advancednutrients.com/landing_pages/sensi_bloom_landing.html) I would reccomened a 2 part formula called Sensi part A&B i use it and it works better than the other 10 or so nutes i've tried. To use these nutes don't use the Advanced Nutrient calculator(http://www.advancednutrients.com/nutcalc3public/nutrient_calculator.html) on the Advanced Nutrient site because the ppms are too high. I use these ratios every time I water( 250ppm for up to 2 sets of leaves,400ppm for 3-4 sets of leaves 600 ppm for 5-6 sets of leaves) after that I flower at 1000ppm. Advanced Nutrients also make alot of supplements. You don't need these but they help plant yeilds so if your not on a tight buget get as many as you can afford. For containers I would reccomened 4" till the plants have 4 sets of leaves then transplant into 6-8" pots, then into your final containers (as big as you can get to fit your space and plant numbers). As for constructing your grow room i'll leave that up to you. But here's a couple of tips. Use flat white paint to reflect light back onto the plants. Make sure there are no light leaks(that will cause hermes). Oh and don't forget to buy a good ph and ppm meter or meters. Advanced Nutrients also sells ph up and ph down make sure to pick these up. Last but not least to make sure you become a pro grower(young Jedi) read the stickys and use google to answer your questions also.

  3. Yes hydro is the shit, that said for a first grow soil is most forgiving. I addition you might consider is CALMAG, if not then get some epsom salt. MJ loves its magnesium.

  4. I use foxfarm and hydro does seem be the shit:)
