Whats up, this is my first post first off I have experimented with growing twice before.

This time I'm using 400wt MH 4200k for vegging and 400wt HPS 2200k for budding. The bulbs were bought on a budget or else I would have gotten a better HPS. Also using 400CFM ventilation fan for cooling.

I'm growing 4 Purple Kush plants and 6 Grand Daddy Purple. 4 of the GDP are straggly and the Rest of the plants are doing great.

General temperature is between 75-85 Fahrenheit; depending on how high I have the exhaust fan on and how hot it is outside.

Soil blend is 3pt miracle grow to 3pt Kellogg amend to 1pt perlite

The Purple Kush is the Bushier plants and the lengthy ones are GDP. All the plants have purple stems.

Also can people look n tell me if somethings wrong with those straggly plants.

also all plants r being grown legally under 2 California club card carriers.

  2. small update: few of the purple kush plants need trimming. ill post pics when i get a chance.

btw lemme know what u guys think about the setup.

  3. 2 up close pics. 1 purp kush 1 gdp. and the quality sucks cuz the only camera i have is on my phone

  4. no comments? good or bad? lol

  5. nice little setup you got going there. I got some purple kush going myself, so feel free to stop and compare. Although my setup is nowhere as clean as yours. keep it up

  6. Thanks, and i got a question for everybody out there.

i wanna keep my plants around the same height so i dont have to move the light higher to cause uneven lighting. the gdp plants r growing up way faster and less bushy so i was wondering if i should top the GDP soon to make them grow bushier. any advice anyone?

  7. You could try that, or get some twine and try gently tying down her top to make her even with the rest. I had to do this with one of my ladies and she is loving it.

  8. i topped 2 of the GDP plants. ill update tomorrow with pics. i have a great pic of a purp kush plant but im 2 lazy to upload the pic off my phone at the moment and its 2 late to take more.

btw tomorrows update will be 1 week 5 days on veg cycle. and keep in mind the plants are clones from a club so they were already started a lil when i got them.

  9. New pics. and i trimmed the purp kush plants. im wondering if i should save these early trimmings or not.. any thoughts people?

one pic is top shot(b4 trimming!) of best kush n others r group shots.

  10. How much height do you have in that room?

  11. when i transplant them into the 10" pots they will have 51inches(about 4 1/4feet i think) between the topsoil and light; when i have it hoisted all the way up of course.

  12. So roughly four foot tall plants at harvest.

I would find containers that held 4 to 5 gallons of soil mix. Transplant into the bigger planters and reduce the total number of plants to four.

I started (years ago) with ten plants in soil under a 400 watt lamp. When I reduced the number to four, my yield more then doubled. You will never see your plants potential until you reduce the number. More plants under that light will give you less harvest weight, slower growth and worse quality.

    Best of luck, R.

good point.. they would benefit a lot more from the root space than me having more plants. only thing is ive already purchased all my supplies for this grow opp :( im pretty much stuck unless i can exchange the pots.. they r unused so i will look into it.

if i lower the # of plants will i still benefit with the same size pots? cuz there are 4 weeklings that are not directly under the light in there i was planning on either growing them to make hash out of or getting rid of them cuz they r straggly. 2 are pretty bad but 2 r bouncing back. i could get rid of them if it would benefit my other plants.

oh n the lowest on plants im willing to go right now is 6.. the 6 good ones i have r just 2 healthy to throw away! hopefully somebody gets that lol i dont wanna waste it.

    Thanks for the help btw

I was wondering if anybody could tell me exactly how much soil a 10" pot can hold.. i think its 2gallons but i could be wrong. thanks

so i did a lil digging. ill be attempting to return the pots to osh tomorrow and purchasing 5gallon buckets from home depot(3$ each for a 5 gallon bucket, wtf my pots were 5$ each with the trays!) while im out getting my card renewed, only have 3 weeks left n id rather get it done now.

is there any recommended way i can catch run off water with a 5 gallon bucket? like a dish under or something. ill be out tomorrow looking but if i could get some suggested id appreciate it.

  15. Well it's your choice. You can have three or four high yielding outstanding plants or six mediocre ones. Most new growers have trouble getting over the "more must be better mind-set". If you choose to grow six or seven full sized plants under that 400 watt lamp, then you have made up your mind that you don't mind harvesting less.

Some folks have a logical reason for flowering more plants then the light can handle. If you are sexing and want to finish all the females to harvest. People with no vertical space can flower lots of real short plants under a small lamp. It is not the best or most effecient choice, but not everyone can grow four foot tall plants.

I want to see what my girls can really do. I don't want to wait two full grow cycles to see my plants max potential. The plants will grow faster and bigger if given more room and more light.

Some easy things that speed up growth and increase yield (bigger buds) are: more light, more room to grow, more room for roots, un-restrictive grow media (soft airy soil).

Some things that are not so easy are: DNA (strain), proper feeding, cool stable grow room temps, CO2 enrichment, and hydroponics.

Work on the stuff you can master quickly, then continue to improve your set up each cycle.

    Best of luck, R.

well the main reason i wanna keep the 6 plants is cuz thats what i donated for, and the 4 straggly ones were free with em so i dont have an issue getting rid of those.

im definitely going to go with the 4 or 5 gallon buckets, depending on the measurements i take from my closet.

i was planning on seeing how these babies r doing at the 1 month then seeing if they should be thrown onto bud. it might be 2 early tho im not sure. my last grows i did i started budding at 1 1/2 months of vegging but that was under florescent lighting.

after i watered this morning i started to look on each plant for new growth. the straggly plants havent grown much in the past week. maybe a few leaves no extra height.

also i took a pic of one of my GDP plants that is showing growth after being topped. she was topped 2 days ago n now has 2 leaving started n 2 more emerging. i have a pic ill post when i have more pics to add to it later.

have the measurements too.. its 2ft deep 4ft wide.. a 5gallon bucket is exactly 12" in diameter. if i REALLY try i think i can make them fit hahaha

  17. i got my 5 gal buckets. i can fix 6 on there but its a tight fit. ill be transplanting my plants when they start to look rootbound in their current pots. should be right around a week or 2 from now.

i have some pics i gotta post too.. look out for em. just some shots of GDP starting new growth after topping.

  18. do you have some co2 going in the closet? theres a pretty easy method with sugar, water, and yeast that produces a decent amount of co2, makes a huge difference in small closets like that. no need for tanks and regulators

  19. No ive heard that method doesnt produce much co2 and it requires remake(or restir it i cant remember) the mixture to keep it doing its job. i also heard it smells bad pretty bad lol

if anything id get a co2 producer but i dont know of any that are relatively cheap and good.

  20. hey what's up man... love the choices you have going... two strains that I really wanna try out! I'm sub'd up for this knew for sure man!
