im pretty sure i just read an article saying that they were voting to get their independence from america, because whoever we vote in is their president
we must not allow them to have independence. We should send in national guard to quell the rebellion.
Negative aspects of them becoming a state right away... - Wave of people receiving 20 billion dollars a year (ehh, this doesn't seem like it could help the deficit right away) - Unemployment rate in Puerto Rico is higher than the current US. - Tourism market in Puerto Rico seems to be saturated already, not too much more jobs in this sector. - Island nation which is more susceptible to environmental damage and pollution (factories likely won't be quick to crowd the place up and ruin the beautiful place) - Language and culture barrier (ehh) Positive Aspects... - Spreading American power / standard of living to others that want it in the world. - Tax revenue (that will hopefully outweigh expenditures) - Tourism, trade, and business may drastically increase due to ease of travel and lifting of import/export tariffs. How do you guys feel? Am I missing anything? Probably. All I'm trying to say is that if you're going to add a wave of people that will be more demanding of benefits than ACTUAL opportunity, and if these people actually do complicate and clog up our bureaucracy and courts system rather than help clarify it... There will be a problem. At this point, even educated and patriotic english speaking Americans tend to be like parasites, and I feel it will be no different or even worse with the Puerto Rican people at this time.
Me personally, I'm not afraid of a more diverse culture and language. I'm just expecting that their issues with crime and unemployment will become our issues. They have a high unemployment rate. That's the main thing. I wonder if people thought this way about Hawaii.
1. make puerto rico 51st state. 2. transfer 15 trillion debt to state of puerto rico 3. kick puerto rico out of union profit???
