PsyTrance

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by phiegnux, Mar 20, 2009.

  1. there was once a thread about i psytrance (i searched, damnit) but its been dead for a while and there was only one reply. and seeing as how there are many more members nowadays (and were moving up on the big boards list) i decided to revive the subjuct of this most beautiful of genre (or subgenre, what ever, fuck genres).

lets sea what you blades are listenin to. i commend you if you are indeed a big fan like myself, it takes a special bread to listen and continue to listen to this stuff.

whatever.. heres some psy goodness to kick it off. post your fave bands also

  2. Infected Mushroom is good. I prefer Psy-ambient though. It's a lot similar, but more natural sounding..

    Entheogenic is a good.

  3. younger brother is quite amient. its amazing how the full albums flow (which is also a strength of Infected Mushroom ive noticed).

If you've heard of Shpongle or Hallucinogen (Simon Posford), Younger Brother is another one of his many side pjojects.

    Speaking of Hallucinogen....

Infected Mushroom is my favorite: Classical Mushroom, B.P. Empire, and IM The Supervisor, those albums are amazing while high, i suggest listening to the whole thing at a high volume lol, but all of their albums are great except for their first one, weird because they released two EP songs before their first album The Gathering, called Intelligate and Small Moves which are really good... but anyways yeah, i love psytrance, it's not a very big genre so it's hard to find good stuff.

Listen to the album No Rules, by GMS (stands for Growling Mad Scientists...) and MFG is pretty good (stands for Message From God... these psytrance groups need to stop abreviating...) then theres Alien Project, theres Space Cat, theres 1200 Micrograms, i like Astral Projection a little bit, people say they are psytrance but i would say they run more close to just trance. One guy i will say you HAVE to hear is Eskimo, his albums called Balloonatic, Part One and Two are way good, his songs are the complete opposite of repetitive, he is one of the most skilled producers i have heard. I produce my own music so im real into the skill of the artists and the quality. Once you make your own music you can see how difficult it really is and you can easily tell who is the best. For me so far its Infected Mushroom, Eskimo, and GMS

oh also i forgot to add, look for the album Hallucinogen: In DUB, that is if you like dub... its really trippy, it's dub remixes of some of his songs, i find that album to be much better than his original songs, just because of the way it sounds, hallucinogen (or simon posford or whatever) may be skilled but the production quality of his hallucinogen songs are not good at all

i indeed do have Hallucinogen in Dub, as well as Blumenkraft and Skylon by Ott (did remixes for "in Dub") who is unbelieveable. ill be seeing Shpongle and Ott at Wakarusa.

  6. I'm gonna try to check some of that stuff out tonight. I've never ventured into the genre head on.

If you could suggest your personal favorite album I'll probably end up checking it out.

Oh yes. I already love this thread.

Psytrance is an amazing style of electronic music. It's more of an experience than a genre to me :) I used to hate all electronic music (cannabis has been a major factor in me changing my views on this), and one of the first "genres" that i fell in love with was psytrance. And i am a metalhead/rocker at heart, so that just goes to show the power that Cannabis has in terms of enhancing your musical experience.

Here is a playlist of some of my favorite stuff:

And if i have to single out one particular song it would have to be this one:

Cosma is by far my favorite psytrance artist. And like all the rest of the "best", he is dead.

    Attached Files:

  8. last night i went on a torrent spree. downloaded Deranger and Twisted by Hallucinogen, all of Juno Reactors stuff, Balloonatic by Eskimo (could only find pt 2) and an album by Protoculture.

Psytrance is more of an experience than a musical styling like poisongage said. nothing comes close to the level of production and detail like these artists. the sounds just send you into another mindframe.

this is just an amazing performance.

This one with Astrix is good for meditation. Serious meditation with a huge spliff.

And since we're talking about Eskimo, one of my favorite psytrance artists, i have to post this:
