pruning

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by jimmy_jimmy, Nov 27, 2004.

  1. I have a few plants that I recently started flowering. I am tempted to prune off many of the lower growths on the plant. The reason I want to do this is because I do not want the plant to put its energy into the lower growths, I want it to focus on the stuff close to the light. Will this cause the plant unnecesary stress? Will the plant put a lot of energy into sprouting new growths out of the cuts? Thanks for any help.

Sometimes lower growth is slated for removal, because it is nonproductive. The lower growth can be made more productive by maximizing your light with good reflectives. You can also suppliment the main light with CFs beneath the foliage.
As for the wounds you will create, you might as well do them all at once. Use a sharp blade and remove all the branch, no stub allowed. Paint the wounds with nailpolish, and nothing will grow from that node. There should be minimal 'bleeding' and no shock to speak of.

  3. Nail polish strikes me as a potentially harmful chemical to expose the plants to. I say this with very little knowledge of the chemical composition of nail polish. I have heard that superglue can be used in medical proceedures. Would this perhaps be a better option?

  4. Sure, jim-jim, The chemical ingredients for nailpolish are no more dangerous than those in super glue. But superglue and klutzes(one hand is stupid, the other shakes) like me are a dangerous combination! I'm not allowed to handle pointed and edged objects, either.lollol
Glueing my fingers to to the bottle, or each other, can be almost as much fun as a puncture wound, or a slice off the ball of my thumb!
