Lately I've been critical of Obama, and so I want to go out of my way to give props to him. His address this morning in response to the unimaginable tragedy in Haiti (500,000 deaths now appear very likely) was absolutely 1st rate. "To the people of Haiti, you have not been forsaken, you will not be forgotten. In this, your hour of greatest need, America stands with you." Bravo, Mr. President.
I haven't heard anything about Haiti until now and wow, 500,000? Unreal. That's very tragic, and I also support the president's response.
Well there was a lot of structural damage. Hopefully some of the $100,000,000 Obama is promising will go to American contractors to help rebuild.
And, maybe some of the folks on unemployment...I'm sure plenty would be willin to step up I've been watching the footage on tv...breaks my heart to see so many suffer like that.. They got a looooong road ahead of them
Very tragic what happened in Haiti. I donated some money. Our government should no be giving them money though.
First I want to say that it is terrible what has happened to the people of Haiti and I hope America does come through and provide them with everything they need. As for Obama's speech, yea it was great. All of his speeches are great. But that's pretty much all that he's great at if you ask me. He is probably one of the greatest speech givers of our time, but when it comes to being the Commander in Chief?
You're applauding the president for his words rather than his actions? Even you know better than that. As far as I see it, this is just another loaded thread to get people to praise Obama for his rhetoric rather than his actions so that you call them out as hypocrites. Way to take a world tragedy 30x's worse than 9/11 and make it a political playground for yourself. Grow up.
Who wouldn't say what Obama said. Its just politics simple as that. Natural disasters suck and it would be a good gesture to help in anyway you can. Donate food, toiletries, clothing but don't give away $100,000,000 we don't have. The Obama administration is changing the United States into a socialist country in order to appease the rest of the world.
Seriously, how can you laud Obama for the generic comment that he made? Anyone in their right mind would have said that. I still detect some sarcasm in the OP...
Hes not really black anyway... When are we gonna get one of those stereotypical blacks in office? You know like ludacris or something, that would be... interesting
The most important thing now, is the tragedy that have struck Haiti. A country so mismanaged that it can not in any sense deal with it itself without much and long uneccessary suffering. The world will aid Haiti in this time of disaster. Emergency relief is something we can afford easily, despite our other financial problems. Besides, goodwill is hardly measured in dollars and cents. But ofcourse, on a longer term, to be realistic, Haiti will never prosper beyond pre-earthquake, unless the population itself want it. So far, the track record of that nation is abysmal at best. We're there aiding them in a time of calamity, not to build a nation. Just to give immidiate and medium term aid to alleviate the suffering from this event. The rest is their responsibility, though we can help if they manage to get their society into control.
i love all the people saying we shouldn't give 100,000,000 to haiti lol... we give aid to countries every day of every month of every year... israel wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our aid, almost every country in africa receives aid from us... remember the tsunami in thailand we have always given out aid to other countries ESPECIALLY during natural disasters...
I oppose government aid to ALL countries. And you must be joking when you say Israel wouldn't be here without our aid.....
