Propane Tank Torch Safety?

Discussion in 'Smoking Accessories Q&A' started by Cannaiseur, Jun 3, 2013.

  1. Hello GC community, I've recently had a thought bothering me lately. Perhaps some of you can put me at ease with your responses or any insightful knowledge.

As many of you know dabs have been reaching an increased level of popularity everywhere recently... and in order to dab you need a setup consisting of a rig, nail, and a blowtorch heating device. Now this is where i've been concerned lately. My blowtorch setup consists of a propane tank attached to a torch.

My fear is that sometimes after a dabbing session, I'll forget to turn the knob closed fully all the way shut on the torch. Is there a safety hazard that I'm facing with carbon monoxide poisoning due to the propane leaking and not fully closing the knob all the way? I've quit dabbing for about 5 months now but the issue is still on my mind because my roommates still dab it quite frequently and they never close it tightly all the way.

Now everytime someone else dabs I have an OCD tendency to make sure now that the knob is sealed shut after, but should I be concerned about any adverse health effects? Any thoughtful comments or advice would be greatly appreciated!

  2. I would be more concerned about propane pooling and igniting, than i would about inhaling carbon monoxide. Either talk to your roomates and make sure they make an effort to always turn it off completely, or replace that obnoxiously big propane torch with a butane torch that doesnt use a knob.
