Promix /soilless VS soil..??

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by buckethead129, Sep 21, 2023.

  1. I’ve recently gotten into organic soil growing. Top dressing with dry amendments, fish bone meal, earthworm castings, molasses, myco, brewed the terp tea.. all of it.

I definitely like the simplicity that organic growing provides — I just like how a good super soil can take you all the way through veg pretty much. (don’t start seeds in it. ) I used a 50-50 mix of coast of Maine Stonington mix n raised bed mix.. I sprouted them in happy frog — then when they were a few weeks old and put them into this soil— I got a SLIGHTTTTT burn on the bottom leaves but eventually- in 5 gallon containers these things took off and that soil!! I fed a little bit late, it’s OK because I’m following the schedule now and everything is looking great. Anyway, I would like to know can you use a promix or soilless organically as well? I don’t see why not. It’s nice to not have to worry about pH, except for my water supply.
8 week veg.. I’m on day 14 of bloom- week2[IMG]

  3. Don't see any problem with using amended promix (with perlite) if you top dress like you do here with worm castings, brewed tea, myco and molasse. Dry amendments works at full potential if they have microbes, bacterial life and fungus to help breaking down. You might need extra minerals like rock dust and gypsum depending on what amendments you choose. Look at the label what they contains!

  4. Perfect response. Thnks. I might as well just stick with soil honestly — I’m loving this coast of Maine line — they’re organic dry amendments are absolutely amazing - I’m actually considering making a liquid for my next feeding, doing a soil drench I can take about a half a cup of each of the organic plant foods. Let them soak in some distilled water for 24 hours and then water with that.

  5. Glad to help a friend! If using distilled on a regular basis, it will worth adding minerals. I Love your vedge old school diy HLG fixture![/QUOTE]

The majority of bagged soil products are a mix of peat moss, perlite, and maybe some compost along with whatever else they want to amend with.

Promix is peat and perlite. Add your humus component, maybe a little more aeration bits, minerals, and amendments and you are in the same boat as bagged soils, but likely better.

I suspect you will be good with whatever you choose as long as you spend a minute to calculate what you are making. Your garden looks great.
