  1. Anyone here own a projector for a Home Theater?

Im going to be buying one cause i got a perfect wall in my apt. My friend owns one and he knows his shit about electronics so he's gonna help me set it up. I was thinking LCD but for the price  I was blown away when he showed me it and he only payed $600 im thinking about spending a little over $1000.

Suggestions on equipment/names/brands? SVGA vs. SXGA vs. XGA.
Gonna be used mostly for watching TV, Games, Movies.

  2. My dad just got a new Hd projector and i get his old one, I dont know the brand but we got a 76 inch screen to project it on, i would suggest getting a screen also, it increases the picture a lot. If you want better sound i would suggest investing in a good system, meridian is one of, if not the best out there right now.

  3. Yeah my friend said its a must to get a HDTV tuner only $100. Im thinking of a screen too but depening on how much i spend might have to come later.

  4. First, a screen is a MUST. there's no sense in getting anything HD if you're just shooting it up on a wall. You'll never see it. Last i checked, the best any projector could do was 480i, which is the bottom of the HD ladder. I'm personally waiting until they can do at least 720p, hoping for 1080i, because over time projectors lose clarity, so you need to start as high as you possibly can. however, the badassitude of having a 70+inch television could outweigh some shortcomings in picture quality. You'd better hook it up with your sound setup though. I'd start with a lower end receiver, and nice fronts (front surrounds and center channel), and then build from there. Get a receiver for around 200 bucks, and then just shop for your speakers. Sapphire Audio has excellent sound quality for a reasonable price. tweeter.com has a 5 speaker set for 400 bucks. My buddy has the sapphire towers, and they're awesome. I've got phase technology myself, and i'm very happy with them, though a set of towers with a center channel will run you about a grand. Just don't go any cheaper than Klipsch, which are available at best buy. If you go big with the sound, the picture won't matter as much, and there's nothing cooler than playing madden with badass surround sound.

  5. I assume you're going to be tokin up in your apt while watching movies and shit... Wont the smoke blurr the screen? Or have some kind of negative affect on it?

  6. Thanks stickytone for the info im def. gonna look into a home theater system. Although i already have a bad ass 5.1 system for my computer (Logitech Z-5500) im gonna have to hook it up or buy another sytem. Idk if the weed smoke will effect it..i always have a fan going and the pateo door open so no major smoke billows everywhere at anytime. Can't wait to hook up my 360 to it! :D

  7. damn bro,
that would be sick as hell to watch movies or play xbox360 on that thing.

how big of a projector do you plan on getting? i thinkk the biggest one i had heard of was like 100 inches that would be nuts.

i just can't imagine the picture quality on those being that good, but then again i've never seen them in action.

keep us updated i'm interested to see how good these are.

  8. Hell fuckin yeah dude it's gonna be sick. Mad weed, mad mushrooms :p Im gonna get some pedals too and play Forza it's gonna be awesome. Def. picutres when i get it set up. It's more like size > picture quality. He payed 600, and it fit 80% of his wall and the picture looked great. It's not as VIVID and BRIGHT as a LCD or Plasma would..but its 85% cheaper. Such a better idea :D

  9. Check out plasmas, they are getting much cheaper now. I just picked up a really nice plasma, get too watch those blue ds now with 1080. I paid 2200 for a really nice one though, however you can get them for little over a grand now for a really nice too, im just a home theater nut.

  10. Word. How's your WRX? Im shopping for one now

  11. your computer sound would work fine, but you'll eventually want to replace it with something with larger drivers. That's the problem with home theatres in a box, if your room is fairly large, they sound too thin. get new towers if you can afford it. Now you got me wanting a projector. If i didn't have a bubbler on hold i'd start saving immediately.

  12. You know what, I went from loving that car to now hating it. It has been in the shop now for 3 months, im soo sad not having it but since the repairs im currently out a little over 3 thousand dollars cause of transmission failures. I won't go into much detail now, but what year wrx are you looking for. I can offer some advise depending on what you want and what to look out for.

  13. I've read numerous stuff about weak trannys on the WRXs. They put the trannys from the RS that handle 160 horse into the W's turbo with 227 and tons more torque. STi totally different situation. Im thinking of buying the other RA gears from the 04's 05's and put in the 02. I absolutely love them though!! Splurge on whatever man any info is good info (if its correct ;) )

  14. The Sti seems like kind of a rip to me, when they first came out you had to pay extra for floor mats alone, plus I heard alot of negative things about the trannys, thats why I went Mitsubishi (not the greatest in the world I admit but im happy) as far as Projections go I know nothing. I just bought a Aquos not to long ago. that with the Xbox360 and the new DVD burner combo does more than enough for me. Im just not home enough, to convince myself to buy anything more for it. Although I did somewhat splurge on the surroundsound. I had a local company install the whole system, spent like 1500 on it. but worth it,come superbowl sunday

  15. I haven't heard anything bad about the STi trannys..Did you buy an EVO or another 4G63 DSM? I woulnd't compare a sub 2000 DSM to a 2005 STi..
