I've seen plenty of threads about eliminating spider mites but does anyone have a surefire way to prevent them? I've heard that if you keep a dish full of water right under the plant the humidity is supposed to deter them but personally I've had no success with that. Any other methods?
mix neem oil and water and spray it on the plant with a spray bottle. you can get it at home depot and it will have directions on it how much to mix with water
Unfortunately my Home Depot is pretty crappy only carrying stuff to not just kill bugs but to annhihilate the plant. Too chemy. No neem
Check this link out.. it tells you all about mites and other problems... best way to prevent is good plant health and temperature under 70.. since temp might be too low for plants its all about plant health.. get rid of dead leaves do not leave them lying around after being cut or falling.. If you treat your plants with any product that contains Spinosad you'll prevent problems from most leaf eating insects. I use Monterey Garden Insect Spray but there are others on the market that contain it also. Use 2 tbsp/qt and apply every 7-10 days. You also want to use a wetting agent/surfactant like DM's Penetrator or AN's Wet Bettty. This stuff is a bacteria that is rated organic. It colonizes on the plant and any leaf eating insect or caterpillar that tries to eat your plant gets sick and dies. If you use it from the beginning, you'll prevent any problems. If mites are introduced to your space, they'll try to eat and will die before they reproduce.
Have you actually used this product for spider mites? Just wondering because I have tried multiple different organic pesticides including neem and they have all failed. I've tried inducing 10,000ppm of co2 to suffocate them with no luck. I recently even tried Floramite with no luck either. I'm pretty much out of options
@holen i've been on a spider mite prevention rampage tonight (sorry i just joined recently so i really wanna share with people if i can help them avoid pitfalls i've made over the years). see this earlier info I posted 2night: Forbid Miticide/Ovicide (8oz) Now More Affordable! see my posting here: http://forum.grasscity.com/sick-plan...ml#post5730663 maybe it comes across as i'm heavily promoting this product - but i am - b/c its worked for me 100%. beware - not organic at all - but if you want full removal of the pest scenario - and really should be using it as preventive maintenance, check avid or forbid
