Hello fellow connoisseurs, Just wanted to start a discussion and see what you all think about burning screens, does it really matter? I was thinking that maybe we can share some ideas and experiences to see if there's really something to be concerned about. I'll start with myself. My first few months into smoking, I don't remember how it started, but I concluded that screens must be burned. and I've been doing it religiously ever since. This was because of the fact that I noticed that there's "fumes" and a color change of "rainbow" when burned, like when there's chemicals in a body of water. So I thought that there must be a coating of some sort that's burning off these screens. I wash the screens after burning as well. To try and get rid of whatever the "rainbow" is. I never started questioning it until recently, however. Please let me know what you guys think about this matter. Any comments or concerns are welcome. Thank you all for your time today. Sincerely, Buffalocake
yeah I'm the same been using a screen for years home made too, until recent, each time I flame them with my lighter. cheers
Probly not a bad idea if they happen to come with some kind of oil??? on them. Do I flame them Nah, their life span is short enough. I buy them by the 100's++ & give em an alcohol wash all at once. I don't bother trying to clean them anymore, I use 3/8" screens (small) & just replace when clogged up.
The rainbow is just from the heat, nothing bad there. It's always a good idea to burn them off though, you don't know what kind of dust etc got on them from China to here lol.
I hate metal screens. I got a pipe that's like made out some kinda mineral as a gift with a metal screen bowl and I used it once just to try it. Never touched it after. I highly recommend glass screens instead.
I am guessing this ritual came from smoking something else.. not in your particular situation but in general. When using a copper brillo pad that is not made for smoking there is something to burn off but I believe the screens made for pipes are fine right out of the box.
I only used screens once , never pre burned them or anything. What gives you the idea you need to heat it up ? Dip it in iso If you want it clean . I prefer a built in screen, or none.
