Pre-rolled cones and cone fillers / loaders

  1. So these last few months I've come to really like joints (I normally use a bong or glass pipe) but I'm lousy at rolling, so I've been using pre-rolled cones: so far Raw Classic and Organic Hemp, Zig Zag, some cheap hemp and flax cones from China, and Elements. So far, Elements and Zig Zag are my favorite and I wouldn't buy the Chinese cones again. The 1 1/4 quarter size are perfect for me. Initially I filled them using just my fingers--which worked but took a lot of time. The Raw Loader makes the process heaps easier and a lot quicker. The Raw Six Shooter now comes in 1 1/4 size and allows you to fill up to six cones at once so I am considering it. I've read here and there that they work best if you pack down the first 1/4 inch before filling them the rest of the way, which makes sense to me. Raw also makes a cigarette style injector for pre-rolled cones but most seem to have mixed results and I am not at all interested in it. The Bump Boxes out there are too expensive for me, the more affordable ones being made out materials that aren't very durable.

Anyone have experience with these sort of devices? I am especially interested in the Six Shooter if it works as well as the Raw Loader, or any similar device that would allow me to make pre-rolls efficiently and quickly.

  2. I’m old school still use the raw rolling machine with tips. I use to buy cones from dispensaries before I realized they were using old flower and shake to fill em now I buy a zip n roll my own.

  3. I roll by hand. Have no advice besides find what works best for you. After 15 years of rolling i can roll a perfect cone in seconds (not including grinding/chopping) and they smoke hard.

Learning to roll unless you have the shakes/other problems is good because if you're instantly in a situation where you need to roll 1 you can just bust out papers and have it done in 10 seconds and trust me its quicker than filling a pre rolled cone.

  4. Thanks for the input! I'll give the rolling machine a try (I have a 78mm Zig Zag just waiting to be broken in but I've been sick recently so I don't want to contaminate it when licking to seal the joint). The one time I rolled a nearly perfect joint by hand happened on accident and I was rolling up to share . . . for some reason, I haven't been able to replicate it since and stuck with glass until somewhat recently.

  5. Word, i stick to glass these days but i smoke tobacco so im always rolling.

  6. I've got sausage fingers and never could hand roll worth a damn. Now give me a roller and I can hammer out doobies faster then you can say "20 joints".

Like most things even the rollers take some practice. Don't over load, Don't under load, Not to fine, Not to coarse grind.

Cones are for the crap you used to sweep out the door or vacuum up but now save and pass off as usable cannabis. "Dust".
All to often the Cones my neighbor gets as freebeee door gifts from the local dispensaries are crap. I could smoke the whole thing along and not cop a buzz. I hate the cones in general as the fine grind material doesn't draw for crap either.
Rant over. Gets off soap box.

  7. Interesting. Very, very interesting. Maybe a month ago I had the pre-roll vs. hand roll brainstorm. I’m not a huge fan of cones. The dispensaries sell the pre-rolls as cones as seen in the pic below. In Florida there are times when the dispensaries all run dry. Sometimes the pre-rolls are all one can get. Sometimes I want to try a different strain without having to buy an entire eighth. Sometimes my favorite strains are only in pre-rolls. I’d say 95% of the time I rip them open and depending on the strain sometimes I’ll vape, and sometimes I pack it in a bowl.

There are times when I have bud, I have a hankering for a doobie. I can barely use my fingers anymore for anything that takes actual control and/or finesse. The fresh ground stuff always makes for a better J. I remembered I had a rolling machine a few decades ago, and it worked well. I eventually broke it because I wanted to see how much I could pack in it without breaking it :). I figured while I was at the shop I’d pick up some pre-roll cones as well. I think I used one cone. I’ve really been loving my rolling machine. The first time I used it, I rolled a perfect joint, and that’s with me accidentally using it with packaging still around it. I do admit that it’s pretty obvious the cones are the future.

As far as papers I’m covered for years. Florida only legalized selling loose flower last year. The dispensaries gave away a lot of papers and a lot of lighters.

I really don’t remember what this thread is about. I’ve been pretty stoned all morning.

  9. I started this thread and forgot what it was about when I clicked on it after my first Tahoe OG, a strain I've wanted to try for a long while. Man! Terrific in an Elements 1 1/4 cone. That's right! That's what the thread is about . . .

There are no legal options in my state, so I buy bud from friends and most of it is really, really good shit. My only experience with dispensary pre-rolls were in Portland last spring. Some of them were great, but definitely not what I'm used to in state where it's not legal but on a par with Cali bud for sure (I miss my home state!). Well, we know the state of things in Oregon, so it's not surprising really. And if you've got access to bud grown by caretakers who know what they're about and care about the results for their patients, you can find good medicine in any state. (Pretty sure I should edit that last sentence so it makes sense but I need a good snack! :D)

So I'm grinding fresh flower and lately have been smoking joints almost exclusively, filling empty cones with a Raw Loader. I dump ground flower on a tray, lay out 4-7 cones, and fill them up. What I like about these is that I can smoke down to the crutch/tip without leaving a roach behind. The same could be accomplished with a roller (like my as-yet-unused 78mm Zig-Zag) with a tip added. I have a glass tip that I got as a freebie I could try for that matter.

For now the cones are working and since I've been sick and don't want to contaminate my rolling machine I'll do that for now, but will be experimenting with rollers for sure.

Okay, I need a beer and a snack, STAT! :p
