Pre-Harvest Photo Shoot: Grape God, Blue Cheese, Black Russian

  1. No time to do a journal this time around, so thought I'd share some pre-harvest pics  :)

Today is day 61 of flower, and I will be harvesting the indica side of my garden over the next 3-7 days.   This side of my garden has 4 plants which have been grown under a 600W Hortilux Eye bulb (air cooled) at a distance of 12-14" from the canopy.    I am growing in 5 gallon pots in ProMix HP with an added 25% Perlite, and using the GH Flora Series of nutrients along with Cal/Mag, Silica, and KoolBloom (liquid then poweder).   I flushed with 3x the pot size of fresh water 9 days ago, so all plants will have a full 2 week flush.

For genetics, I have 2 x Barney's Blue Cheese, 1 x Next Generation Grape God, and 1 x Delicious Seeds Black Russian (freebie).    All were vegged for 6 weeks and topped/fimmed a couple of times and LST'ed for multiple tops and bushy growth.   Plants are all 2-2.5 feet tall.   Today is day 61 of flower, and I can't wait to chop!!!

    Here's some notes:

Barney's Blue Cheese:  both plants seem to be the same phenotype which is definitely heavy on the Blueberry side.   Shorter, stocky plants with good branching, responded very well to topping and training.    These plants were a lot more finicky with the nutes than the other strains, but the buds turned out amazing!   Not a big yeilder by any means, but lots of very dense, extremely sticky nugs that smell sweet and fruity with a hint of skunk.   The tops all purpled up beatifully in the last 2 weeks, and the buds now have a distinct blue/purple hue to them.   Trichs are about 10% amber, the rest cloudy and 90% of the pistils have browned off and receded other than a few last minute pistils that got chucked this week.    Plants yellowed up extremel fast after the flush and are now almost completely yellow except for the purple coloring up top.   Should make for a nice smooth smoke after the cure.  Will be chopping the Blue Cheese in 3 days.

Grape God:  apprantly there are 2 phenos, a green and a purple.   Only one of my 2 seeds germinated, and I got the green pheno.   Slow grower in veg, slower to recover from topping, very stocky with big fat leaves, deep green colour in veg, darker than all the other plants.    Very easy-going plant, and not finicky at all.    Exploded during the stretch and caught up with the other plants, forming 6 top colas after the fimming.   Apparantly the purple pheno is the huge yielder, but this green pheno does fine in that dept as werll.    Extremely fat and chunky golf ball buds that are super dense.   I've been keeping a fan over them constantly as I have been worried about bud rot, these are some of the fattest, densest nugs I have grown to date.    No purple coloring at all on this pheno, but insane frostiness!   The buds appear totally white and glint under my HPS light they are so coated in trichs.   Trichs are about 10% amber, buds are insanely swollen, will be chopping in 3-4 days.   The buds have a fantastic aroma, a sweet, fuely Grapefruit funkiness to it, can't wait to see what the cure brings out.

Black Russian: freebie that I germed after I discovered one of my Grape God seeds was a dud.   Very vigorous and easy to please in veg, quickly caught up with the other plants despite being started almost a week later.   Very nice structure, lots of side-branching and loved to be topped and trained.    Fimmed multiple times to keep it the same height as my other plants, and ended up with 13-14 nice sized colas.    Easiest-going plant in my entire garden, and looks like it could be the largest yeilding on as well........it stayed green right to the end, and it's buds are still fattening up with new pistils coming out.   As a result, will go another week or so for 10 weeks total.   Solid, relatively dense buds that are still putting on weight, and lots of trichome production.     Buds have a sweet, subtle aroma that is hard to describe.  Creamy is the best I can do for how it smells......delicious!

Thanks man!  This is only my third grow, and I run multiple different strains every run. My priorities are variety, quality, and taste and I don't worry too much about yield, but I pull 10-12 ounces from my 600W light.   I am a terrible judge of yeild, but this harvest has a chance to set a new personal record.    For my next grow, I am considering only 2 big plants and doing a SCROG and see how much more I can get with a little extra work.

I'm curious about the Black Russian as well, a very pleasant surprise that may steal the show!

  4. The Blue Cheese are coming down tomorrow, can't wait!

  5. Looking good so far sub!

  9. Hey please get back to me on this but how much did you get off the end with that black russian?? and did 10 weeks give it any funny affects?? make it mutate or anything (not being literal) but This strain does intrigue me please get back to me on your results please whenever you got time

  10. Black Russian gave me 2 and 3/4 ounces.   And why would waiting for the proper harvest time give it funny effects?   It is very strong because it was taken at the proper time, most growers chop way too early and their yield and potency really suffer.   A lot of people would have chopped the Black Russian at 8 weeks, when it went almost 11.  In those 3 extra weeks, the buds fattened, the smell became much sweeter and stronger, and the plant became fully ripe.

It's now been curing for 5 weeks and has a funky sweet caramel smell to it, it's absolutely delicious and very strong.  Nice mix of stone and high.

  11. i Realize this post is old, but i am curious how your grape god scrog you were talking about getting started after this grow went. I got one growing now, and just put it under the screen, at about 5 weeks veg. just trying to get an idea at what to expect for stretch etc. thanks buddy
