  1. was thinking of getting a rain barrel for my house and was wondering if anyone knows if rainwater has a better makeup than tap when it comes to sodium and other chemicals in the water. thanks-

Tap water always depends on your municipal or rural supply. City water is usually pretty good for plants. If it is hard, then it doesnt have very much sodium.
Most tap water has nitrates (rainwater does not)
Tap water will have a lot of trace elements. (rainwater wont)
Rain water should have a pH of 5.6 (Straight out of my limnology book)
My tap water has a pH of 6-6.5 (better for plants in soil)

This is what I went to school for and this is the best I can do from memory. (Natural Resources)
I like tap water better for indoor soil grow. Rainwater may be better for hydro or outdoor grows though, I have no experience in those.

    Good Luck.

  3. I actually tested this and i had results on the contrary. Rain water is about 7 and my tap was about 8.2 where i live.

  4. That is not 'on the contrary'. Both are about 1.5 higher than what my limnology book said, so maybe your test/method was inaccurate.

However SauchBoss could be 100% correct for his area.

  5. legit
