Power supply for HLG Qb120 x 8 in 4x4 Tent

  1. I was planning on building a light from 8 x qb132 for flowering in my 4x4. Since HLG is out of the qb132, I figured the qb120’s are my best bet.

I am planning on running 2 power supply’s in series for each of the 4 boards. For the 120’s, HLG recommends the 240H-C2100 to run in series. However, I would rather max out the potential of these lights and run them a little dimmed down using the 320H-C2100A. Would this be possible?

My understanding is that the 120’s can’t handle quite as much wattage as the 132’s, but can handle more current. I just want to make sure that I’m getting the right power supply for these 120’s since I have never used them before.

  2. With a 320H-c2100 you will get the exact same output because its a constant current drive, meaning it will provide the same 2.1A to each board like the 240h-c2100 driver

Two options I see for you are
    1. HLG-240h-24a. You will need to wire in parallel and it will give each board 2.5A (10A divided by four boards) which is pretty close to the max rating of 2.8A that these boards can handle.
    2. HLG-320h-24a. Again with parallel wiring BUT this driver has over 13A so you must cap it at 11.2A it or you could damage your boards. And there is a risk if a board fails it will split the current between the remaining boards which will bring them over the max again.

Personally I would go with option 1, its pretty close to max rating for the board but leaves you a bit of safety margin.

  3. Sorry it was a typo, I meant (2) 320H-C2800A powering 8 boards in series. Would this work to max out the boards if I dimmed it down slightly?

  4. The 320h-c2800 has 114volts, each board needs 24v to run so it can only run 4 boards

  5. That’s why I am planning on running 2 of them, powering 4 boards each for a total of 8 boards

  6. Oh ok, that would work and you dont really need to dim them since 2.8A is the max rating for the boards.

  7. Perfect. That’s what I was looking for. Thanks again for the help!
