1st time to this new site. seems cool. I currently run a 400w mh for veg and a 400w hps for flowering. what i'd like to know is if i replace the hps for a 1000 watter, will it cause a power spike that can raise red flags. i live in an apartment and the bill isnt real high to begin with.ive read that a digital ballast will stop a spike but they cost a couple hundred more. all replies are welcome. thanks!!!
most digi ballasts have a "soft start" which does indeed eliminate spikes. if you have 1400w of lights plus fans and ect in an apt, you should be ok as long as you cut down power useage in other areas. like changing your incandescent bulbs to cfl's, doing laundry at a laundromat and eating out alot(or at least not using your oven as much). 1400w's should raise your power bill about $100 depending on the rates in your area.
