Pots, fertilizer, and transplanting. help a brotha out!

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by jibbarama, May 27, 2009.

  1. So I currently have 2 seedlings in small plastic pots, which have been growing on a window-sill, they are about 5 inches tall. they look pretty healthy, but it's time to move them outside. I will be putting them in pots in the forest, as the forest floor in my spot is not suitable to grow them in the ground. What size pots should I be getting? I only want to do 1 transplant. I'm not intending on growing monster plants, but I want them big enough to give me a decent yield, and I dont want any issues with unhealthy roots. I'm pretty sure they are Grapefruit. Also, what kind of bagged soil is good for a first time outdoor? I live in BC, Canada.

And when I transplant them, is there any special method I should use, or is scooping the soil from one pot into the next good enough?

+rep in advance for help. :)

  2. 20 gallon totes work well, just make sure you drill drainage holes.

  3. well bigger pots = bigger yeild... i've had friends grow in everything fro rubber main tubs to trashcans with excellent results... drainage holes are nesscary w/o drianage holes rot root can be a problem... add perlite and vermiculite and / or builders sand to help with drainage and air ...oxygen is very important for root growth. your in canada so i dont know what readily aviaable... for small plants 1-3 gallon pots are fine just remember with the 1 gallon pots they will get rootbound and you will have to water more often.

are you doing organics chem or a mix of both?

basically all ferts have whats called a n p k ratio expressed as 3 number like 3-3-3 on the package...

all of these "macro " nutirents are important but for veg we want something high in nitrogen which is the first number... around flowieringing time i start something still high in n but with a but more p and k and start to add a but more mollases to my babbies... then i grudallt phase the n out... this applies to chem only

  4. I am planning to do organic fertilizer. I just potted them today, the pots are about 18 " in diameter and 14" deep, dont know how many gallons that is. I used half outdoor potting mix, which had peat and perlite in it, and half "sea soil" which had fish and other ocean nutrients in it. my clumsy friend may have overwatered one pot a bit, hopefully the seedlings will be okay.
