Why does the "dumb stoner" stereotype exist? It's like the stereotype that people who defecate on their partner's chest and then proceed to smear it all over their face as a physical manifestation of love are "disgusting" and "weird". It is completely false. I know myriads of intelligent and successful marijuana users. I also know quite a few glue eating dumb asses who smoke weed, but I firmly believe it is in fact years of inbreeding and anal conception that causes this stupidity, as opposed to weed. If you turn on the news or walk through a mall, you will notice it is often the latter who project their use. It's not the intellectual stoner who is walking through Best Buy in a T-shirt with a marijuana leaf on it and some sort of shell necklace that looks like it is cutting off circulation, its Ricky, that kid who shot his friend in the ass with an air soft gun, which vicariously simulated dry fisting. I find a lot of my Marijuana co patriots are, well, retarded. Not on Grasscity, but locally. Is it a self fulfilling prophecy for some? Do they act ditsy and hazy in order to appease a stereo type that has become a social norm? Or does Marijuana attract the stupid demographic? I love to believe that the majority of Marijuana smokers are productive and intelligent, but they keep their use personal. This forum is chalk full of articulate, cerebral, and reasonable individuals, yet if I go to a local party I end up smoking with Sarah Palin and Rainman. I like to keep faith in the marijuana using demographic, because we need competent individuals to establish legalization. But, who knows? I'm stupid.
I'be been smoking everyday, and I'm a biochemistry major at a pretty respectable private university. I also tend to keep my use more personal. but I aagree with your observation, the stupid stoners stick out like a sore thumb, they are a lot more likely to flaunt their drug use, and it's their open retardness that gives all of us a bad name.
Why do all stereotypes exist? I find it's more of an issue concerning maturity and responsiblity; if you aren't either while sober, chances are you're going to come across pretty stupid when you smoke up. My two cents.
I don't necessarily flaunt my drug use, but i do talk about it openly. I too am in college, a civil engineering major, so people generally take me seriously and will listen to my reasoning more than the typical "dumb stoner". I usually get pissed at kids at my school who are open about use with alcohol, because they seem to have this elitist attitude towards it like they aren't breaking any laws, when in reality if they get caught drunk in public/minor in possession they will suffer more legal consequences than myself being caught with a half ounce. Then police don't really bust people openly drinking i.e. frats playing beer pong in their front yards, but will bust a kid smoking a joint, reading on a bench (i did see this happen last year outside the dorms). So i don't really see the stupid stoners being the problem, it's the ignorance of the masses that bothers me.
This is very true. The only reason you think most stoners are idiots is because the idiots are the ones most likely to attract attention. There have likely been many people in your life (teachers, bosses, coworkers, family members) that smoke and you would never guess. Also, anything that is illegal is going to be forbidden fruit. And that definitely attracts the idiot crowd.
Because when I get fucking ripped i'm stupid. Duh. But idk, when you smoke just to get high I can do just about anything I can do sober, i.e. go to class, do homework, etc. But If i blazed 2 L's there isnt anything smart about me haha
The stereotype was made up because parents didn't want their kids to smoke. What better way to stop them then by telling them it makes you a ruh-tard? Also, it doesn't make you stupid. If you were stupid before, you'll be stupid after. The smokers you know probably act the way they do so they can be viewed as the "typical stoner". You know, because smoking pot is cool and if you are the epitome of everything weed is supposed to do to you then you must be 100x cooler than everyone else.

It's ridiculous that it's acceptable for almost anyone and everyone to be getting completely drunk, often acting like idiots and putting others at risk but as soon as someone's getting high, it's a downright fiasco

Because it wouldn't make a very good anti-marijuana commercial if they say " It won't really effect your intelligence if you smoke marijuana... BUT ITS STILL VERY VERY BAD FOR YOU!!!"
