Pot size

  1. So it's only been around 2 weeks since I transplanted from 8 oz peat cups to 5 gallon fabric pots. Plants are 5 weeks old so we're transplanted at 3 weeks old and roots haven't even had time to grow much but have definitely taken off. Here's the thing: im planning to veg up to another 5 to 7 weeks if I must because im trying to fill a 4x4 with 2 glookies plants and trying my best to get 2 pounds off those 2 plants whether I succeed or not so I'm wondering if I should go ahead soon and transplant to 10 gallon pots before adding my act of net so I want have so much trouble later? Because I just think it'll work better than 5 if 5 will work at all? I have pulled just a half oz shy of a half pound in a 5 gallon bucket at 9 weeks veg 9 flower was not all rot bound but definitely filled the bucket? This might be up to a 22 week grow I hope not more than 20 though?

  2. Honestly bro, I have seen one 5 gallon container. Do some crazy things. Whenever I harvest, I always realize I could’ve use that much smaller container. I think to be honest and transplanting them again is only a risk in my opinion.. I was wondering if I should go from solos to 1 gal n then 5. Looks like I’m going to have 4 or 5 females. But we will see.

  4. 5 foot pots for a 3 foot max veg for max yields. I would do 10 gallon pots . I Do or did 20 gallon pots for each 5/5 area with a single monster plant. Why i suggest 10 per plant.
Now a 4/4 aera your better to have 4 plants in 5 gallon pots shorter height faster veg . Totally up to you .

  5. I am with bryan oconner. I would go 10 also bc of the long veg and the harvest goal you have set. Why chance it? Besides, having a larger pot helps in other ways such as maintaining an even root ball temp, moisture, and less frequency of watering. These reasons alone will help with your goal aside from having adequate nutes for the long haul grow.
I wouldnt even try to remove them from the 5 gal. just place that fabric pot inside another fabric pot. The roots will grow through the 5 gal fabric pot if and when the plant needs to. Or, you can slit the sides of the 5 gal before packing soil/coco or whatever you will be using around it to facilitate future root growth.
Please entertain using a SIP system if you are going to use a soil grow. I have switched to SIP and I aint ever going back to hand watering again.
As Bryan Oconner said ....better to have more plants in a smaller pot. I have done monsters before and sheet happens usually 3 weeks into flower that sometimes requires me to scrap the plant. Then you have nothing to show for the earlier hard work. More plants more success. I know a vet like yourself already knows this stuff but I said it for those looking toward future monster grows. my 2 centavos. cheers

  6. Buckethead129 has a good point. I have seen some monsters in 5 gal pots too. I dont have that skill or patience to get monsters in 5 gal fabric pots though so take my post with a grain of salt..

  7. Well I have a 4x4 and that's what I wanted was 4 plants in 5 gallon pots but I only have 2 so I'm vegging longer.

  8. Yes but the problem is I only have 2 plants 5 weeks in veg

  9. But if I transplant this is what I'll do is put the entire pot inside another but the reason I wonder should I go ahead is because of the dröh net being in use

  10. How are you doing on vertical height? That is a limitation for me, imo u gotta scrogg or lst big time when indoors & an 8' ceiling.

  11. i dont know what a droh net is. If it is a scrog net, dont sweat multiple pots under it. Yes it is more difficult to service the plants but it is doable. I have done it for a long time that way. Now, I am lazy and I just lst and top the plants and veg them shorter and have more plants to compensate. 2 plants under a scrog is easy. However, are you sure you can veg 2 plants from seed in only 5 weeks and fill up your net enough before you flip them? That seems very quick.

  12. Honestly I used a 7 gal one time n it was jus TOO BIG

  13. ... Lets think a second. Hmmmm... Top the plants . Cut 60 % of the top of it off. The top will be put into a hydro cloner to form roots. Then once there ready in 10 to 14 days . Just veg for 7 days so the roots can get established in the soil. Or veg a bit longer . Then flip 12/12 . Success rate on very large clones should be 100 %. Up to you . No wrong answer . What lighting do you have over head ?

  16. I had a lot of room for roots to still spread in a 7 gal. Wasted at least a gallon of happy frog/mixed with coco loco. I have since gone back to just happy frog because it retains moisture a little bit longer. If you look at one of my older 3 x 4 Scrog grows. I used 7 gal pots. Def too big. I could’ve probably field five just a little bit less with the room for top dressing. Which again is something I’ve never done. I’m gonna look into that for this grow.

  17. 600 mh vegging and 1000 hps flower. I have a journal grow of 4 glookies. But as said now it's 2.

  18. 1000 yeah baby. 6 foot vegged plants topped .20 gallon pots.
