Pot size autoflower

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Toyboy, Mar 2, 2024.

  1. Hello growers,

Is 5 gallons sufficient to grow autoflower in fully organic soil?

  2. We prefer a 10 gallon pot size for water only in organic medium. You can use a 5 gallon pot. Just don't set your expectations to high.

What size pot is "practical" for you & your grow area??? Can you move a pot with 10+ gallons of wet soil? I can't. What works for you may not be "the best" option for another. I could only fit 1 large pot in my grow room & haven't got around to trying it yet. A dozen or so indoor grows in 3-6 gal pots. I add liquid nutes and use a top dress monthly??? Need more soil if you do not add nutes makes sense. None of those giant baseball bat sized buds seen here on GC yet, I'll have to settle for 3.5 gram + cured buds (oh the horror);)

  5. You could possibly go organic bottled nutrients or tablets, etc., but that's something I know little about. I've been growing in 5 gal smart pots with organic living soil. It's more work and less room for error. 10 gal. is better if it works for you.

  6. indoors I use 10 liters thats 2 1/2 us gal? they are autos and be done in 60days at best,
outdoor I go 20 liters, 10 us gal, the extra soil as insulation, too much is a waste,
and results in slow growth due to the soil being too wet

    cheers

My 2 new pots will be 19 gallons each. It is very large, will be very heavy to handle.
I have no plans to move it. Put it in the grow space, fill it with soil and that's it. It stays there like a newly constructed building. No moving around.

  8. Snazzy looking good luck. That would definitely be the way to go for 1 big ass pot. What are you gonna grow in it? Show us the roots after harvest. I'm curious how long do you expect the plant to be in there? as long as possible???

  10. I have a similar set up on a 20 gal. living soil fabric pot. Works well. I leave my old roots behind and plant a few inches away from the old trunk. You can easily get several grows out one batch of media by topdressing between cycles. Multiple plants per container is also possible.

  11. Can you show photos? Want to know more about multiple plants. I read it is good to chop up the roots and leave it in there. I saw someone remove the roots and replenish the soil by adding 1/3 manure too. Got few ways to get it right I guess. But digging up the roots, might get messy, esp doing in grow room. I want to reuse the soil many times.

  12. It don't look like I'm gonna have a shortage of new things to try. Here's to hoping they all work.

  13. Why don't you remove the old trunk?

  14. I'll look.

  15. Not digging up the roots maintains the integrity of the soil food web you've worked so hard to establish, roots provide drainage pathways through the soil, and ultimately they decompose leaving behind valuable organic matter. YMMV.

  16. Sounds like a "thing" for an outdoor raised bed living soil type deal. HMM... C'mon Joe if you do anything worthwhile, Legalize! Until then it's just a pipe dream here.

  19. I run mostly 10 gallon pots for auto's and photos. I have 22- 10 gallon pots right now. Not all are used for cannabis. I also have 15,20 and 30 gallon pots. All of which have at least run one cannabis plant in, either inside or outside. Soil mass matters with no-till container gardening. I do not use liquid nutes. I believe those baseball bat sized buds are either from high output HID lighting being fed bottled nutrients. Or they are being grown in areas that offer a longer growing season and again with supplemental lighting.
