Pot bound?

    The roots are starting to come out the top of the medium and growth has slowed down? Do I have to get a bigger pot? It's a 6 in one and the plant is like 7 in tall

    Yes you should transplant.

    Ive never had a plant shoot roots back up through medium though, its usually out the sides or bottom. (roots dont normally grow up without some kind of reason)

    Yes and as soon as you can. The bigger the pot the bigger the plant but a 6 inch pot is tiny.

    If I go buy a few 5 gallon PVC buckets and drill holes in the bottom to drain will that be good enough to where I won't have to transplant them anymore?

    If they are inside, yes.
