Possible PH problem?

  1. Hello all, I've recently started up my hydroponics system again, I sprouted 28 seeds, got 14 plants going in Rockwool cubes, they are about 3 weeks old, And they look like crap! The first and second set of leaves are turning a dark greenish/brown color and drying up to a crisp and then falling off, I havent had time to go about buying a PH test kit, But could this be the problem? I have them growing in those little red clay balls (forget what the proper name is) And I'm feeding them with 1/2 strength RockWool Magic nutes, part A is 2, 0, 2 and part B is 1, 1, 3. Light cycle is 24/0, I have full root growth through the bottom of the rockwool cubes, Using floresent grow lights from the hydro shop, I'm doing everything I did when I was growing previously and I had VERY nice results, but I have moved since my last grow and I am wondering if the water quality here is different then at my previous location, I cant figure out what is casuing my plants to dry up like this, I have no pests or any other infestations, Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pics will come shortly after I locate my digital Cam.

  2. what with all the crap they put in tap water these days you'll need to invest in some sort of ph meter/tester and a ppm/ec meter. i think Sunleaves makes an all in one meter in the $40 range.

  3. You absolutely need to measure pH for a hydro grow.

  4. you may be able to make it w/o a ppm/ec meter in hydro, but not a ph meter and up/down solution. if you're gonna use tap, let it sit out 24 hrs. so the chlorine can evaporate. i wouldn't be feeding at half strength either. try 1/4. try and keep you ph around 5.8 once you get a meter.
