i was hanging out with a buddy last night who got an Xbox-360, and i got a chance to play the video game Saints Row... Now in this game, you can go into the liquor-store or whatever, and buy "blunts," "spliffs," "pipes," and "bongs," as well as a variety of liquor. Upon purchasing these fine items, you have the option of using them at any time during gameplay. so i had the character take a few bong rips, and suddenly my screen gets really fucking blurry, like really really really blurry to the point where you can't see much, it's pixelated and shaky and wobbly. I thought outloud... "This game does NOT show people what it's like to be high. Being high... Is NOTHING like this." So I continued to ponder it, and thought--The media, government and people who haven't tried this terrific plant capitalize on these portrayals of intoxication and highness to help aid them on their decision to try pot or drugs... This happens so often in television and movies and video games, that the wrong idea about these intoxicants is spread to millions and millions of television sets. The episode of simpsons, where homer is prescribed medical marijuana for glaucoma? his world turns into colors and when he starts his car to go to work his car is personified and lifts him up and flies him to work. I do understand that most of this is an attempt to capture the humor and perceived effects of marijuana use, but it's not anywhere near an accurate illustration of vision when one is high on marijuana, since generally marijuana is actually a relatively mild high, low on visuals and such... discuss i guess, jus ranting
