I don't know if this is the right place to ask about it, but i can't see any other fitting place on here. I get off corrections in five months, and plan on moving outta Kansas as soon as possible. my sister is going to start attending Culinary school up there and she really wants me to move with her so she doesn't have to go alone. For the people living up there, or in that general area, how is it? like cost of living, minimum wage, weather, laws, of course cannabis. are there gangs and shit like that? I've traveled to Northern Cali before, and it was pretty amazing, and i hear people say the further you head north into Oregon the better it gets. I'm a little concerned with such a big city. where i live now we only have around 15-16 thousand people in my whole town and i've lived here my whole life, so moving to a big ass city like Portland is pretty weird to me. tl;dr, people in Portland/Oregon/North West, school me on why it is awesome. Thanks for any input blades!
You start with Craigslist! craigslist: portland, OR classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events That will give you a LOT of information! Rentals, jobs, freebies (a good indicator of community interaction) and such! Then there is epodunk which can give interesting stats on places Portland, Oregon City Information - ePodunk Contact the chamber of commerce - you get to look that up, I'm not doing it ALL for you! They will send you more info! I visited a friend in Portland a few years ago, I could live outside the city. Pretty town- Lots of parks! Lots of flowers! Tree-covered roads through residential areas- people leave free furniture on the corners- lots of garage sales. Huge bridges over the river. LOTS of shopping for just about anything! Kick-ass pot! Outside of Portland proper, it gets rural. The city streets were a bit crazy (1 street, 3 names!) Too many one-way streets. Get a good map and bookmark mapquest! (thank goodness for mapquest!) And that covers Portland! Granny
Nothing to do with your thread..but when you move there, let me know if you see them filming portlandia and if you meet one of the actors I'll give you a high five. Dopest show on netflix hands down
thanks for that Granny! i'm pretty sure my sister already has a few places she's looking at. she's been wanting to move there for a while, where as i wanted to move to Humboldt to live with my aunt. but moving in with my sister might be a good idea too. the fact she's going to culinary school and can already cook amazing food is a huge plus last time i talked to her she said it was a 3 bedroom house, 1 car garage and a fenced in backyard for like $1300, which is a pretty good deal to me. she's going out there next month to check out Portland and see if she likes it, so i guess i'll wait to hear back from her.
I love Portland, I actually just moved back to Portland from a small town in Northern California. Right now it's pretty chilly and rainy, it rains a helluva lot here. The summer isn't too bad rain-wise - there are a lot of festivals. Regarding laws about weed, medical cannabis is legal - with a 'green' card. I heard that the city of Portland is going to attempt to make recreational use of marijuana legal, for the city of Portland only. Portland has a small town mentality, everywhere I go I run into someone I know or someone I know from passing. It's weird. With any large city, of course there's gangs, but there isn't a whole ton of gang violence. Here are Portland crime maps: PortlandMaps Detail Report You can click on any map to be able to zoom out and see all of Potland.
Oh I forgot, I believe minimum wage is $8.95/hr and the cost of living is less expensive than NorCal. I believe in Sacramento minimum wage is $8.00/hr and a two bedroom apartment would be like $900/month on average. In Portland a two bedroom is probably $775/month on average.
awesome, thanks for that reply. minimum wage i was really curious about, but even that minimum is more than i'm making now in kansas and i've been at my job for almost two years now haha. and what's the average prices for herb? i imagine pretty low considering it's in the north west. if worse came to worst i could always drive down to my aunts place and pick some up, but it's like an 8 hour drive.. i really just want out of kansas, so NorCal with my aunt was a perfect route to take, but my sister brought up the idea of getting a place with her so i'd opt for that. how far is Portland from mountains and forests? i assume it's pretty much right next to em or in them.. i'll have to do some more research myself about the whole area in general.
Mt. Hood is like, a 45 minute drive, if that. Some of Portland is in the forest. I've never bought weed in Portland so you'd have to research that but Portland is very green, very weird and artistic.
ahh that's awesome. it looks about equally as far the other way to the ocean too. with Mt. Hood that close i'm pretty sure there'd be a ton of sweet hiking trails and mountain bike trails. seems like a nice place to be from everything i'm reading about it. thanks again for the info!
I lived in Portland for a few years, Awesome Place to Live. When I was there weed was like $10 a gram Yeah, rent is like in the $800 area for 2 bedroom. In the nicer areas maybe a bit more. But man, Portland is nice.
Portland is great you won't regret moving. People are awesome around here. Most of your questions been answered, as for weed prices it varies, but good thing is you can find it anywhere, and you do smell it everywhere lol. prices are ok in general. Mt. Hood is great for hiking there are many trails and waterfalls around that area, sometimes you just wanna stop and look around it's really beautiful.
man I wanna live in Portland because Im a depressed mother fucker and I feel like its a good place for depressed mother fuckers. I also like the rain!
Portland is a VERY expensive place to live in Oregon. Traffic is beyond description except to say that during rush hours to and from work it can easily take 2 hours to drive three miles to work. Then when at work you pay through the nose for parking. There are myriad things to do in Portland like the zoo, OMSI, and it is after all right on the Columbia river and very near to good skiing. The further south you go on I5 the cheaper it gets to live generally. I live in Eugene/Springfield. My 3 bed apartment right on the river trail, with three sliding glass doors, 2 apartment complex jacuzzis (indoor and outdoor), sauna, weight room and twenty acres of parklike grounds complete with gas BBQs scattered around and near the pool costs just under $1500/month. The Willamette river borders the property and it is a georgeous trail system. In Portland such a pristine location in the heart of things right on the bus line for exactly the same type of luxury living would be double that EASY. Portland is the name of the anchor city but in reality it is a conglomerate city of little towns that grew together. As far as crime? Portland is like any town on the I5 corridor. If you lock your bike outside overnight your chances of finding a cut chain in the morning are high. I5 hosts little travelling crews that move from place to place quickly, steal what they can then use I5 to stay mobile. If you dine in the wee hours at an all night Diner on I5 chances are you can buy some CHEAP household items in the parking lot where you will be approached. The one thing you will find in Oregon are clean outdoors areas. Littering is frowned on at a cultural level and of all the places I have lived in the world Oregon is by far the most trash free. The potential downside to that is that if you collect junk cars and such and somebody complains then Oregon has zero trouble forcing removal of junk from you property. The fine for tossing any burning trash, like a cigarrettee last I knew was $1500 or so as well because in Oregon the words "forest fire" spell econonomic disaster and we are a state with vast forest stretches. As far as weed in Oregon.... should I boast or remain humble? Oregon decriminalized pot back in the 70's. It meant it was just a ticket for posessing an ounce or less - no crime just an infraction seldom enforced. We were the first to allow growing and medical use by patients. It means we have a whole generation born into a culture that embraced 420 and long flipped the middle finger to the feds. It means we have a generation born into cannaculture and they produce the finest in the world. Down here in Eugene, in Oregon spirit, I have learned to refine the extract to pure delta 9 THC and I am just a private patient. In Oregon we may not have better 420 than elsewhere but I am certain that no place else has better than we do lolz (ducking now). The photo is an example of nearly pure Delta 9 THC I ran this month straight out of the sublimator. In 24 hours alternating in and out of the freezer the THC shown on the mirror changes color to a rose or purple hue. Then another two days and it evolves to a light brown - still optically clear but very slow degredation of product. This is an Oregon product though I am non-commercial. At least two local producers are gearing up to crank this kind of purity out. I am proud to live in a state with the kind of 420 history as Oregon.
