ok, so like i was just in this other thread n i saw someone who had like 1,700 posts and i dont think i've ever seen a single one of his posts haha... but his sig and icon thing werent really catchy at all, do you think that signatures and icons make a difference because some of them are more recognizeable, cuz i always recognize the icon or sig and know who it is n dont even have to read the name..... n thats my conspiracy theory for the day haha
Images have the capability to stick in your mind like glue or, conversely, your mind can repeal them like similar sides of two magnets placed together. I'm guilty of it myself. One time a member who had up an avatar for a very long time, changed it one day-spontaneously and without warning, the swine.. god's mercy on them. It wasn't until I read the name three or four times before I remembered exactly who it was. Your subconscious will eventually remember, it just takes some time. As for the popularity of members based on their avatar/signatures-I can't be sure.. And, one way or the other, I don't care.

I think it has alot to do with it. I usually dont know peoples usernames, but their sig is what i know.
I think it's a combination of the user name and the avatar/signature picture The only people I can't keep track of are the people with like under 100 posts and names with various combinations of "weed" "420" "toking" "bud" and stuff. Then again there are a million people with Bob Marley in their pic (I know, I can't talk for having Jimi), or a pic of some bud
Ive only had my avy for like 60% of my posts, but who doesn't like Bear in the Big Blue House? But yeah, alot of times when people change their avys, I'm like damn this dude get alot of rep and i dont know who it is...

Avatar humor/sig humor probably plays a lot in the popularity of a person on this forum. Also, I would be willing to bet that the amount of controversy one person causes also gives them a notorious name.
