When should I pollinate my females to get some seeds? Obviously I'm only going to pollinate one bud on each plant. How do I make sure I don't accidentally pollinate more than I want to? Any recommendations ot tips for pollinating would be appreciated. Thanks.
Take the male plant far away from all the femals. Open up the little pollen sacks and store some of it. Use a cutip and put it on only the buds you want to pollinate. You have to be careful though, cause it could easily pollinate more than you want. I believe males drop their pollen two weeks after they start budding. So around that time is when you wanna throw the pollen onto the femal buds. You might want to look into cloning too. IMO, much faster and that way you know they are female.
Right. Thanks I will be very careful as I relies the sensitivity of the situation. I am going to use clones to propagate. The strain is Thai X Skunk. I just hate to waste the opportunity of having viable seeds on hand. I would like to be able to grow at will, so if I have good seeds on hand I can start and stop for as long as I like with known results. And the out door conditions are perfect for mail flowering. How many seed could I expect to get from one bud that's 2 or 3 inches long? And is it better to seed the buds early or late in flowering? Will it cause any adverse hormonal changes in the plant having been pollinated? My worst fear is if the growth is stunted some how by pollination.
let the male drop pollen on itself so you know its not imature and is potent.. take a leaf or whatever & put it in a bag .... rubberband that bag to a whole chute that has HAIRS in it NoT BUD! and give it a shakin'....even let it sit for the night . this should be done when the female starts to show sex in the first 2 weeks.. this also should be done AWAY from other females ... (pollen has been known to travle 100's of miles on the breeze...) and wheen you remove the pollen bag give her a light misting..... she"ll be all knocked up and droppin' beans in a few more wooks!~!~!
Cool Im doing it as soon as the lights come on. Hers a pic of the selected female and some shots of the mail pollen sacs I took today. Thanks for the info. Any one have anything to add?
The deed is done! I used cellophane to cover the plant and then dabbed a few buds in one location with a small paint brush. I was a little worried, my A/C popped on during the process and I had left the lid off the jar of pollen. It should be fine since I took the plant to a different room and did the operation away from the other girls. After I pollinated the buds I then sprayed the area with a light mist of water and removed the cellophane, the plant is now sitting in my room waiting to go back into the flower room after I shower.
