Scooby I have agreed with 90% of your points thus far. But this I cannot agree with. "When people start arguing religion is normally when they are lost." I find that to be completey inaccurate. I don't think anyone who is arguing in favor of God and religion are lost. You have no idea what it's like to be on my end. I would also add that most people who turn to religion and/or God often find agree that they were indeed Lost Before they found their God. I find peace in knowing that I don't give a damn about how everything in this world works because it doesn't matter. When you die you can't take anything with you. I have to have Faith that when I die I go someplace better for eternity. I dont think anyone bothered to ask the most simple question...... how many people posting in here lost their virginity before 16? I sure did, and lots of my friends did too. Most people don't know that if you are cuaght having sex underage, there can be charges pressed agianst you, even if your partner is underage as well. I know two people who were dating got caught having sex in a public place and were then charged with somehting and had to do community service and attend these classes. Just like scooby, im not for pedophilia in any way, but I think its a personal choice to decide when you are ready to engage in these acts. Its wrong that someone can tell you when you are ready to have sexual relations. Therefore on the note I would have to agree with their cause, the main discrepency I have with them is that they are infact pedophiles..... they are adults. If it was children fighting for their sexual independence, it would be one thing, but adults who want to have sex with kids is not right. As far as child pornography, a minor can be charged with having pictures of a minor. So the pictures I had on my computer that i got from girls back in middle school could have landed me prison time, but on my 18th birthday I got rid of those pictures, thinking about the slightest chance that anything happpend involving me and my computer needing to be checked, I didnt need to be charged with child pornography. Many culutres regard 13 as the age of becoming. while 12 sounds like a very young age, which im not saying its not, children these days are growing up very fast. I hit puberty well before then so it isn't entirely pre-pubescent as some people believe, but puberty is also dependent on life-style, genetics, and geography. I remember being told in an American school that most kids hit puberty (FOR GIRLS) around 13-16. I was like, wtf?! I have cousins who got it as young as 9. Not to mention the youngest mother ever was 5 years old. I still believe 14 is pretty young; I figured 16 is always ideal - by then you hopefully would have had a year or two of sex ed under your belt (once in 5th grade for me and again in 7th) young enough for wild hormones but old enough to go 'WTFHSOMGBBQ! I see where you're coming from scoob, but this statement here, while true, kind of weighs against your entire point. I completely support the right for these people to speak their mind. No matter how much i disagree w/ them, everyone has the right to say what they feel. The problem is the morality thing. The personal "lack of freedom" for these people to take advantage of somone who's conscious mind has not developed into that of a responsible consenting adult, is a good thing. You cant seriously think that a 10 year old kid is responsible enough to say "i'm going to have sex with this guy and let him take pictures of me." can you?? That child doesnt have the life experience or the maturity to understand fully what that decision involves. a 10 year old kid should be treated like a 10 year old kid.(granted, its up to the parents to raise and regulate what a child does. but it IS up to the govt, to some degree, create laws to protect us from OTHERS) I feel where you are coming from though. If you're just playing devils advocate here, then forgive me. I just think that if you truly believe that it is wrong for one's freedoms to encroach on anothers, then you would be disgusted by the thought of this situation becoming a reality.
No, it hasn't been addressed the way it should. And I'm not your fucking buddy. YOU need to read what's in front of you. You can't allow a child or an animal to consent to anything like that. They do not understand. Therefore, sex with children? Rape. RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE. You may not have any worries about rape. I'm sure your childhood was dandy and no uncle or cousin of yours diddled you because he convinced you to "consent" when you were in preschool. But some people, like the children of Holland, do have to face that obstacle. They do have to worry about being raped - and it being considered okay.
Sorry for the long post but here's my .02 On Semantics: A virus is defined as an "obligate intracellular parasite." I.e. It has to "live" in another animal's cells. So no we're not viruses. Heh- I'm a fucking geek. On Paedophiles: Hysteria aside- for me it comes down to the idea of consent. One view of consent is that to be able to give valid consent to something being done to them someone: *has to be able to be informed of all the things that could happen -Kids may know the immediate thing that is about to happen to them. But quite a lot of kids don't really know about things like how they might feel shitty when they grow up, STDs... all that kinda shit. *be competent to make that decision (I.e. able to weigh everything up) -A kid may "know" that they might get older and really regret what happened and feel violated etc. But just because someone tells you that this might happen you'll probably still not really appreciate it. Some kids ARE able to make that kind of decision. But who can separate them out? Who knows who are the competent ones and who aren't? *Voluntarily giving consent. -Not necessarily talking straight out rape but what about coersion? Someone here said it quite well- a lot of kids can be really pressured by adults. More so than if they were adults- FACT. On freedom of speech: Yeah- I'll disagree with what the peadophile party says but I'll argue for their right to say it. On Gaydom: We could wonder about why people are gay, if it's natural (btw clothes aren't NATRUAL, medically lengthening life isn't NATURAL) etc etc etc. But I don't see any of these points as important. With regard to adoption etc- what kids need is straight forward care, attention, teaching right from wrong and love. On mixed marriages: My girlfriend of a year and three months is half Iranian. It's obvious what I'm gonna say isn't it? Fact is that people mix. That's how cultures are made and that's why we are where we are today. English wouldn't have existed if there hadn't been this huge Saxon/Norman mix. I say LET cultures mix and change. STOP holding on to this idea of "pure cultures." EVOLVE!
