This man did nothing wrong. A war is starting to brew in Egypt and it's not going to be pretty. I would like to here what people have to say about this video. This reflects on the united states a lot also. It's happened here and is going to get worse unless something is done. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-tPKikN1rI]YouTube - EGYPT POLICE SHOOT PROTEST today 06/02/2011[/ame]
messed up FOR SURE but it seemed like he was asking for it... walking towards them and stuff. they didnt have to shoot though..
We have no idea what the protester was saying to the police. The protester continually kept moving toward the police, and I'm sure the police told him to stop multiple times. It was the stupidity of the man that got himself killed. The police are outnumbered by protesters, which means they are nervous and percieve everyone as a threat. Some are peaceful protesters and some are the type to take advantage of a protest just to cause chaos. I'm not saying that this guy was causing chaos because I don't the entire situation, just as most of the people here don't know the situation. I support the revolution in Egypt 100% but be intelligent about it. If a cop pulls a gun on you and tells you to stop multiple times, then do as he says so you can go on to fight another day and be part of the revolution. Its possible this guy was being peaceful and its possible he could have been a legitimate threat to the officers safety. We don't know the full story. This could have been prevented but I think it is the guys ego that got him killed.
I'm not sure that video is legit -- if it is, it's fucked up, but things are likely to get worse in the short term.
It's all over CNN, He was wanting to protest in that area and u can here the protesters behind him cheering. I still don't think it's right to take a life. They pay the police to protect them not kill them.
That doesn't prove anything. He could have had a gun in his waistband. He could have been shouting threats. He was the only one protesting in that area, which is suspicious. How do you protect someone when they are a possible threat?
He was walking to the police waving his hand showing he had nothing. There's another video of it from the ground on CNN but I can't find it right now. You still don't have the right to kill somebody. there life was not threatened in any way. He did nothing wrong. even if he had a weapon that does not give them the right to shoot to kill. That's why police are trained to shoot the legs arms shoulders anything non life threatening.
Again if he has a gun in his waistband waiving at the police doesn't mean a thing. Do you have any proof that their lives were not threatened? If a man is armed and yelling, who has been told to stop moving multiple times still comes toward you, they absolutely have the right too shoot and kill. The military and police have been handling this considerably well considering the other possible outcomes. Just look what happened in Tehran. Also considering that they were around 7 yards away, under stress with adrenaline pumping, it is extremely hard to hit a leg or arm.
Utter bullshit. Police officers are trained to aim for center mass -- a target's chest (where the heart and lungs are located). The police are not trained to shoot arms or legs -- they don't make good targets and even a good shot wouldn't eliminate the perceived threat. They are showing the video on CNN and elsewhere, but they are also saying it hasn't been confirmed or substantiated.
Why can we watch people die in pandoras but the boob thread can't show nipples? Priorities are whack up in here.
I disagree my dad was a sheriff and my uncle is still a police officer. When it comes to protest they are trained to shoot limbs not kill unless threatened. we trained there military so I assume we trained there police officers. I'm not sure if did train there police or not.
So you are acknowledging that the man was moving towards the police, and they gave him a warning that they were going to shoot?
The police do not have different standards for shooting people -- a different standard does not apply to protestors. If a police officer shoots, he is shooting to kill. Either you are full of shit or your dad and uncle are.
Yes, But he stopped when he was warned and started to turn and walk back a few steps. CNN is saying the same thing I am. But they have not had all the proof they need.
So your saying the police waited all the way until he was within 7 yards to warn him? When the protester was way back and starting to walk toward them yelling, they drew guns without saying anything, sitting there quietly? Ask your dad if that is the SOP when dealing with a possible threat. Just because you regurgitated what CNN said doesn't make it true.
Oregon law requires law enforcement agencies to adopt a policy on the use of deadly force. If you can find an agency that says officers should only shoot protestors in the arm or leg, I'll believe you, son. Shooting someone -- whether in the arm, chest, leg or head -- is the use of deadly force -- period.
I'm not saying it is. I'm just saying what I was hearing. All I'm saying on a personal level is that it was wrong to kill him. He probably had a family was someones son. You know what I mean? All they want is change and it's happening in a horrible way. CNN said he was 12-15 yards away unless that was 12-15 steps. I have not turned the TV on for a while.
