Hello, this is my first time attempting to grow. I have a closet that is about 4'X21/2'X9' high. I was wondering if people could help me out with deciding how to set up my closet. I was thinking that i could probably use the bottom 2-3 feet or so for a clone room, then the top would be the veg and flowering section. Any ideas?
how much freedom do you have to manipulate the closet? can you cut, drill and nail? big if there I have my larger, vegging/budding room on the bottom, and the smaller seedling/cloning room on top.
Yeh, i'm able to pretty much drill, cut or nail anything in there. I figured i would need some way to ventilate. Also i have another closet of the same demensions with only 6" of wall in between it and this closet. I figured I could put a Co2 tank in there. So you think it would be a better idea if i put the smaller room on the top, why?
That's amazing! ( certainly wish I had the freedom with a couple of closets that size) I don't know why I'd prefer to have the smaller section on top, maybe it's just personal fung shuei. How tall are you planning on having the veg/flower room? Any taller than 5 feet, and you'll need sumthing to stand on to access the small section. If the smaller section is on the bottom, you'll be bending over a lot, or doing alot of work on your knees and it just doesn't seem natural to me. Also, seedlings and clones like heat, heat rises, having the small section overhead allows the growroom's heat to heat the smaller section up. Is it really necessary to have the starter section in this closet? MAybe in the other, or in a seperately designed grow box? That's really awesome that you have another closet beside that one, that will come in handy for ventilation, and co2 enrichment. I'm parking my ass down right here. I'm excited to see what you do with this situation. Keep me informed.
Just a couple more thoughts... Is light entering/leaving the grow area going to be an issue?? I don't see a door on your closet. What about odour? Is that an issue? Do you have kids, or are you a teen yourself? is this your house, or do you rent or is it your parents or sumthin? All very important things to consider. If you're not going to install a door, then light will be an issue. You won't be able to turn on the light in the room containing the closet during flowering night hours. flowering plants get all mucked up when they receive light at night.
I may use this whole closet for just the flower room after all that you just told me. I think that i could have a little room for storage as well. I'll move the veg and clone rooms over to my other closet and move my clothes to an amoire (or wardrobe i think) that i have in my room. The light entering and leaving the two closets should not be a problem, because i am going to put a door on each of them and make sure they are lightproof. Someone living with me finding out isn't a problem either. I am still in my teenage years, but my family finding out wouldn't be a problem. Since I don't have a great way to make money, the most money I'm probably going to spend on my first grow is in the 300-600 dollar range. I doubt that i will be able to afford Co2 enrichment on my first try. I'm going try and go with the bubble bucket method. It seems simple and cost-effective. I think i could fit 4 buckets in the flower room if I put them in perfectly. Do you think that the carpet in the closets will be a problem if i keep the area sanitary and organized? How big should my clone room be? What materials should I be buying first, i only have about 200 to start out with? Thanks for the help!
How are you going to lightproof the doors? Where're you gonna get doors that are 4' X 9'? Doors are costly. If you're going to grow in two seperate rooms. You can produce your own CO2. I have some goos ideas for you. During the day, plants go through photosynthesis, the conversion of CO2 and water into sugar, using the energy gathered from light. This process is called reverse osmosis. At night they do the opposite, they sweat, releasing water ( this is why growroom humidity goes up at night) and CO2. Thus if you offsett the two closets to have opposite day/night schedules, you can vent your nighttime growroom (but no light leaks or you'll get hermies) CO2 into your daytime room where it's desperately needed. There are also cheap cheap additional ways to boost your CO2 levels. I've heard of leaving carbonated water in the room to go flat. And also you can rig a slow release, large, baking soda/vinegar reaction, the gas produced is CO2. Reall you have some some time to learn, lots actually. co2 injection is only really necceassary during the flowering stage. Have you checked out my grow? It only cost me $20-$40. Most everything was laying around. You'll have plenty to get a small-medium grow op going, next season you can expand. Carpet is a bad idea. Absorbs light, and moisture. No matter How clean you keep it, Plants sweat at night. And even watering your girls adds moisture to the air. The best in my opinion, is simple wood painted with a couple of coats of flat white paint. I have a buddy who has tiled his entire grow op. Entirely. He's a tiler. Or is it tilist? he's good. Anyway... Seems like with your first 200 bucks you'll need to buy your bubble buckets systems (I have no experience here, so dont ask me) lights (couple a 26 watt cfls would suffice for now), bathroom exhaust fan (go to the dump man, you'll prolly find a decent tube fixture maybe an exhaust fan who knows? Other than that, seeds or clones, medium, maybe some 10-52-10 ferts to feed youngns at very low strength. Other than that, you gotta get your doors. Get some hinges and some plywood, who says it has to be aesthetically pleasing? Your clone room should be able to support clones from 4"- as large as you wish (minimum - 10") Also consider the lights, they may consume a foot, maybe 5" depends on what you get, so i'd say minimum, 2 feet. Sky's the limit though. Move Move Move, I wanna see this get going. You could be very successful here. And you're in the right place to research man. There's some smart people here.
Alright, I am going to make the doors then. I'll get a few sheets of ply wood and some hinges. I'll make sure i have enough to build a shelf in the second room. That Co2 idea with switching the cycles is a really good idea. Once i have both the rooms going, I am going to use that. I haven't read much about CFLs, I was thinking about using horticulture grade flourescents. I'll read about them tonight and hopefully make a final decision. I think i could make my bubble buckets pretty cheap. I read a really good guide and bookmarked it. Right now I'm going to check your grow out and then I'll clean out my second closet. As soon as I have made some progress, I'll put some pictures up. Thanks
Man, if you have the money, get some real good lights later on. You can use fluorescents for cloning, seedlings, and vegging but when it comes to flowering, if you can afford it get a real light. I think you can get some good lights for a first grow for $200, i think u should , but like I said you have like 2-3 months b4 you have to worry about that.
Spend your money on the most important thing a good light!!! CO2 is not necessary or useful unless your temps are in the 90s and humdity is over 70% and even then you need enough light for the plant to use it. Just make sure you have good circulation. i.e. an exhaust fan in the ceiling and an intake near the floor and you'll have all the CO2 you need. Remember we currently have higher CO2 levels than they we have experienced since last Ice age.
Alright I'll get a better light then. I think i'll get a 400 or 600 watt hps and metal halide combo. I can get plywood for free or really cheap and i have hinges laying around everywhere. I'd rather I did this first grow really well, so I'm willing to invest the money. I'll start out with only one room, since i don't need an empty room at the time being. Mylar is something I'm definetly going to invest in i have like 5 or 6 hydro stores in my city so it should be easy to find some. I'm gonna try and get this stuff ASAP. Gracias Seniors
