Plant/Weather question

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by xXxKidderxXx, Jan 27, 2011.

  1. I live in Michigan and for my plant i will be using Danky Doodle. The last frost of the year for my area is average 6/6 so thats june already. That would give me 4 months if i waited till the end of october, which is when Danky Doodle Ends. Should i start them inside for like a month? then plot them outside?

  2. You could do that but just make sure you set the light schedule to match the duration of daylight outside, if theres a huge difference in the photoperiod when you switch from indoors to outdoors it might cause them to flower.(ex 24/0, 18/6 indoors then when they go outside it could be like 16/8, 15/9, 14/10 etc), that decrease might trigger flowering. Remember, outdoors plants start flowering before it becomes 12/12 outdoors unless you live very close to the equator.

Thanks for the Lighting info. Well I checked around and the Danky Doodle is ready for harvest in September. It says it starts flowering mid July so 1 month after The last spring Frost. How long do plants usually Veg for? So i can veg it inside for the difference?

EDIT: After some more research, I am going to Start the plants inside 2-3 weeks before June 6th. This will allow 8-9 weeks to Mid July and Finish Mid Sept- Early Oct.

  4. xkidderXxx, your last frost date of 6/6 doesnt mean you have to wait until then to plant, especially if you pregrow the plant for 30 days or so. A small seedling is succeptable to frost, but a plant 12" tall can handle a good frost - no problems.

My last frost date is May 2, but im finished planting by the last week of april. Occassionally we'll get a light frost after that, but the plants dont mind. Last year it dropped to 30 degrees and i got some tip burn but didnt loose any plants. cannabis is tough.

  5. So basically once the length of day reaches 12 hours or more that's when I should expect my plant to flower?

Im in South Florida and have a few sprouts that are about 4 weeks old, I just checked and the days are 10/14 right now and stays that way until may when they are 12/12, so is it safe to say that my plants should start to flower in may?

  6. OP; sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread.

  7. It's alright bro.

Alrighty Thanks Clodhopper, I plan on growing them inside for 3-4 weeks and then put them out

  8. Saosko, not to hijack kidders thread, but most indica cannabis will initiate flower around 14 hrs of light, with some triggering in at 14.5hrs. of daylength. In my area, that means i see flowers at the first of August. Living in S.florida, you dont reach a daylenth of 14 hrs so flowering of indica/mostly indica will begin fairly soon.

Having said that, what a wonderful world you live in. Get a good haze, maybe one from Mr. Nice, and you can have the kind of smoke most of us can only dream of.

  9. Thanks bro, I'm going to pick up some autoflowering seeds once it gets a little warmer but basically just doing a test run right now, thanks for your help ! + rep as soon as I get to a computer.

I live in S Florida too and the longest day of the year (Jun 21) is just under 14 hours so you could probably expect it to flower at probably 13-12.5 hours but i agree with clod hopper, get a haze or another late finishing sativa strain, its def possible for original haze to finish down here since first frost is usually in early january
