Plant now or plan for the future?

  1. I'm new to the forums and growing but I've been reading a lot lately and searching for a plot in some woods , I found an alright plot maybe 100 meters from houses but they can't see in the bush as it is pretty dense and the spot gets plenty of light. I might plant 3 bag seeds as a first grow but not sure if I should germinate them in cups then transplant them straight into the ground after about 2 weeks also there is 2 ants nests about 10 meters away would that be a problem?

  2. Yes, some bugs are good, such as spiders because they eat bad pests. I hate to say it man, but you should just be planning for the future. I remember when I was at your stage and all I wanted to do is grow outside so bad, but couldn't because I started too late as a new grower not knowing a whole ton. And yes, germinate them in cups. Two weeks sounds good. There are so many factors when it comes to getting the best buds possible in the end. Research does help, but putting it to the test on different strains and ways is the best way.

I would suggest getting rid of those ant nests because ants are known to destroy plants sometimes. There's so many different things I could tell you, but I think it would be best if you just ask the questions and I anwser them as best I can.

  3. Thanks for the reply man really helped, there is a fuckton of spiders haha I have to carry a stick with me through the trail cause the spiders are so camoflagued, and any tips on how to get rid of the ants nests? If not Im sure google would have answers. I might as well plan for next year as it would be better should I prep the ground now or wait till like 1-2 months before planting them. Also is 3 holes 1x1x1(foot) big enough for a plant or should I dig it deeper and wider?

  4. Hey man no problem, I enjoy helping others. Well you want a nice amount of spiders not too many, but if they're around that's good. You mind telling me what part of the country you're from. Like state wise, It would give me something to work with. Like if it's dry, wet, cold or hot as hell where you live. And yes I would plan for next year. The only thing you can really do at this point in the year is prep you're area for next year. You want a nice amount of growth to hide your girls, but not to the point it starts effecting the amount of sunlight your ladies will be getting. Cut small tree's and shrubs that will be in the way but make sure they will be hidden from the sides.

The more soil medium that you give your plant the more room the roots have to grow. Thus, the more room you have in the soil medium means more roots, bigger roots and in the end it makes for a bigger plant which means a bigger yield. A good healthy amount of room for a marijuana plant is about 3ft x 3ft and maybe about a 1 1/2ft deep. LIke I said I don't know where you're from. I'm from the midwest and it's pretty common to have soil with a lot clay in it, which isn't good for plants. You can find a lot of clay free area's here, but if you're unlucky like me this year I had to put mine in five gallon buckets above the ground.

What I do is take a five gallon bucket and fill it with my soil medium to about 2- three inches from the top. Because once you water it it's going to take some of the air pockets out and you don't want your roots exposed. I do suggest that you put some nice caging around them if you think that you have them hidden enough. Chicken wire works, but I would suggest going with something a little thicker and preferably green if you can find it. I take a 1/16 inch roll of green fencing and make a cage around my girls early on in the season. If you take the five gallon approach, drill about 8-10, 1-inch diameter holes at the bottom for water to drain out if needed. Once you're girls get big enough they should grow right through the cages and when it comes budding time the cages will keep them nice and sturdy incase weather gets crazy and also helps supports the big buds and colas incase those suckers get nice and fat. I have a 9 foot tall skunk #1 and bubbleberry outdoors atm and the bubble berry grew through the cage nicely, but the skunk grew straight up and then out so it basically looks like a 9 foot tall tree.... Lol, it may be big but it blends in well.

If you have anymore questions just ask away.

  5. I forgot to answer your question about the ant nests, you could let them be and your girls could be fine or they could eat them up. I've never had a problem with ants so that I couldn't really help you there. I do think you could find some good information on getting rid of ants. I would stay with organics if you can, you don't want to be using synthetic pest sprays too close to your ladies.

  6. 100 meters from houses? IMO find another spot before you do anything more.

  7. Thanks for the advice I didn't know if it was too close too houses because they cannot see the plot ,well I can't anyway from the 100 meters away in thick dense woodland haha but I guess I could scout out a few more spots.

  8. I live in queensland it's it's been warm and dry at the moment a couple of rainy days every now and then but most of the time the sun is beating down I'll go out there tomorrow and could prepare it and take some pics to see what I'm looking at.

  9. Yeah don't grow that close to houses. There is a good possibility neighborhood kids might find your plot or people walking their dogs etc.

Also every kid in that hood will work his way thru any feild 100 meters away from home. When you look you will probabaly find 4 to 5 forts already. Not to mention the trails you would make over full grow season.

  11. Ants can also bring aphids to your plants and as the aphid feeds on your plant the ants will suck the sugary stuff out of their behind. I`ve never had it happend but have seen pictures of it and read about it.

  12. Thanks for the feedback it's got me thinking haha
