Plant issues, help me verify my suspicions

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by whatuthinkin, Nov 23, 2018.

  1. Been a long time since I've been on here and I suspect I'm also a bit rusty. I'm trying a new growing method using Roots Organic 707 soil and their dry amendments like as top dressings per their dosing guide. Soil pH has been tested by taking 2 table spoons of soil from 3" below surface and making a slurry, letting sit for 20 min and then measuring. Lots of stirring and agitation along the way. Results of pH are 6.2-6.5 but straight runoff water from watering is coming in lower at around 5.8-5.9. I am watering with 6.8-6.9 oH RO water at 5ppms.

I have several strains growing right now with 2 being affected with the same issue but not every plant of the affected strains are showing signs. Other strains are now showing any signs using the same regimen, granted these 2 could be finicky. There are a few that are showing much more than others. We are 4 weeks into veg from seed and just started to be able to sex them. These issues appeared nearly over night and have gotten worse very quickly. I am suspecting 3 things: Magnesium, phosphorus, or maybe light burn. We did just lower our lighting. Lower fan leaves are affected and it's moving up the plant.

Speaking of we are using some 200w LED lights and we had just lowered them a bit and is why I'm maybe thinking light burn but in real hesitant to say so. We are at 77°F and 55% RH. Just dropped RH to 50% today actually. Have plenty of fans and airflow circulating within the grow tent. But alas all this does nothing without the pictures, so here are a few that I have. These pictures are 2 days old and the leaves are now turning brown/whitish in the affected areas.

excess (N) in any soil does strange things to leaves

no nutes for 2 weeks just water

maybe a flush if no result

(pour 3 times the pot volume of air temp ph'ed water)

allow to recover over night, so do it at days end

    good luck

ps avoid reading ph let the soil do that work for you thats what it does

  3. Thinking excess N? I was thinking a deficiency for some reason as I'm not getting the darkening of the leaves I would expect from too much N.

I just checked the pH since I was having issues and wanted to make sure all was well there.

Flushing is on the table but we haven't done it yet. Just watered them and if no improvements I may do a flush next if needed.
