When polar bears and grizzlies breed, they can produce fertile offspring. Why can't other species? - By Christine Cyr Clisset - Slate Magazine I love nature and this was a good read
Interesting read. Brings up the problem of our classification system. Two animals that cannot breed is usually the criteria for a biological species, but this is not always the case.
I like the story of the guy who shot the Polar/Grizz Ursid Hybrid in 2008. He only has hunting tags for a Polar Bear, so the DNR tells him he could be in for a $50,000 fine since he didn't have tags for a Hybrid Bear, ie the animal he shot. That guy has to be thinking: I see a big white(ish) bear in the Arctic, shoot it, and find out its the 1 out of 1million that is a hybrid. Now I owe Canada 50 grand... That's like getting hit by lightning bad luck.
reminds me of my friend who is always like dude who would win in a fight, pizzly bear or a liger. haha. shit cracks me up
