Beware of any train of thought that is "anti" in nature. Avoid taking them up in yourself, because it is invariably counter-productive. An "anti" movement comes about from a label which is given to a group of people, and a list of descriptions of those who fit the label. These descriptions generally are extreme in nature, trying to radicalize aspects of those who they oppose, in order to make them sound as bad as possible. This will be effective for one thing, and that is getting people who already agree with you hyped up. In terms of preventing those things that you are against, nothing could be less effective. When you come up with this label, and these descriptions of them, there will be people who you associate with this label. This draws about the inevitable comparisons of others who are like those who have been given that label, and could potentially be given that label. My point is that there will be people who become associated with this label. You, who are against whatever it is you are against, have already come up with a list of descriptions that you claim describe those who fit the label. Now, those who become associated with that feel that, since they are that label, that must imply those things that those who are against them say about that label. This will, in turn, influence those who from that point on are to relate to or become associated with that label to take on those traits, and even take them to the extreme. What you have said about that group becomes accepted as being descriptors of that group, and so those aspects become more and more apparent in those who are a part of that group. Just to give one example that I think would be good for this forum, the anti-drug position that this country has taken for a while. Society tells us that with drug use comes drug abuse. They tell us that the drugs will consume us. We will become lazy addicts. Now when a kid decides to smoke some weed, he has learned that this is going to make him lazy. Now he's more likely to start slacking off, and getting lazy. He's learned that's what happens when you smoke weed, and he likes smoking weed. He's learned that all drugs are basically the same, and weed is a gateway that leads to other, harder drugs. Now he's taking hard drugs. He's learned that you can't just experiment with hard drugs, you get addicted to them. Now he's addicted to hard drugs. This is a self-fulfilling prophecy. You're causing him to go more and more towards those things you are against, because you are telling him that's what's going to happen if he doesn't listen to you. This is just one example, and probably not even the best one, but I thought it was appropriate for this forum. If you really grasp this, you'll see that this has always occurred, and has been huge in shaping humanity. It still is to this day.
