[PICS] First grow height and trimming questions.

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Canadafirstgrow, Jan 20, 2019.

  1. Hello everyone, I'm a brand new grower and started my grow journal on Instagram under the same name. I have found a lot of my information from searching this site and finally decided to make an account and join the community!

I'm currently 8 weeks into my first grow with CropKingSeeds White Cookie Feminized seeds. They are going in a 4'x4' tent 6' tall.

From a very young age I began topping and training for a strong horizontal mainline. The goal was to grow the main 2 horizontal with 5 coals each. Top to the 3rd cola and remove the 2nd leavening the 1st. This would leave me a total of 8 mains.

Now for the first 8 weeks this went very well but now each plant is starting to grow additional secondary mains of the original 8.

Some of those secondary mains are making it to the center and appear to be strong while others are facing towards the ground and not doing much at all.

I recently removed a lot of large fan leafs that were becoming a huge problem blocking light. When doing this i made sure not to cut to close to the stem to harm.any bud sites.

    So my questions are.
How do I trim this plant most effectively?

Can I remove just the secondary mains that are not doing well and leave the others?

As the continue to grow the next 4 weeks or so how do I trim the main stems I wish to keep? Perhaps keeping my 8 mains and 4 secondary mains to fill the middle. Do I remove any new secondary mains I do not wish to keep as well as their fan leafs leaveing just the small bud sites?

I no this is a lot. And I hope someone's able to understand my mess ><. Would appreciate any advice thank you all.

  2. Dude ur doing AMAZING training that plant. Everyone does it differently and has different opinions. Mine is what ur thinking to do is good! Keep the mains and the secondary ones u believe to be the best and remove lower ones/weaker ones. removing big fan leaves blocking main sites is ok. U could even remove fan leaf blades blocking sites. Like take the 3 Middle leaves and leave the rest. I also leave the whole stem when removing leave. It’ll get used up and become a thin nothing u can will off lol.

  3. Well thanks man!! The ones in the pic are my 3 babys :). 4 in total just the 4th looks the same haha.

So am I correct with the "bud sites" being the very small nubs by the fan leafs and growth tips?

If so then am I best to remove any growth tips
Fan leafs and bud sites that do no get enough light. Completely? And as for the top canopy I wish to bud what can I trim from that? Is just the bud sites needed to make big buds? Or do I need to leave all the growth tips and fan leafs on them to have the stems turn into lengthy buds?

    Hemp Topiary ...Nice!

  5. Yes you are correct removing lower sites and sites out of light will help ur other spots. Thru all of flowering im always having to take off new growth.

  6. I checked out ur IG. what led do u have?

  7. Perfect. So I just need to leave the bud sites in areas getting light? Not the growth tips or the fan leafs? Just make sure the tops of the stems have there growth tips and fan leafs to keep growing?

  8. Hollandstar 1000watt LED

  9. Don’t remove fan leaves just bc they are fan leaves, Just the ones blocking the buds.

  10. Ok perfect! So far that's all I have done. Still took a fare amount off Tho hopefully not to much.

  11. Shew.. I’m sorry. 200 watt draw will be ok to veg 4 plants for a lil bit but to flower 4, im not to sure. U might wanna think about getting a lil more wattage to get the most out of ur girls

  12. Hmmm that's sad to hear. My 4th is struggling pretty hard not keeping up well at all. I'd say about half of the 3 here. May need to toss in the towel and try to flower only the 3 decent ones?

  13. I’m not gonna push any type of led but if u can get another like u got thatd help a lot. I’m.not sure I’d toss any. Maybe rotate them daily or every few days so each gets optimal light. Always have one directly under center and rotate each under center.

  14. Liked ur diy video build on grow box/tent

  15. I will try my best! Perhaps get an additional light next grow

  16. With 200 watts and that 1 light I’d two two bonsi small plants or one regular size. Save some $. Around 200 during this grow. There are some quality leds out there. A little more then the blurples but u get way more per harvest

  17. Your plants look awesome! Way to go

  20. Thank you so much! It's my very first attempt. Things are a little slow but with my lack of experience and the stress training I'm still happy with the result :). Dont plan on rushing the veg I want healthy strong plants to flower
