  1. can anyone tell me if a piano is a percussion instrument or a stringed instrument? ive heard both, but read that piano is percussion. most people just dont believe that. what do you guys think

  2. Hard question, really i think its both. There are hammers that strike strings, usually when people think of a string instrument though they think of using either a bow or your fingers to articulate though. So, if I had to choose itd be percussion.

  3. yeah likewise percussion

its one of those midway instruments...like the sax...part reed, part brass....

  4. I think piano is really in its own category of musical instrument. I may be wrong here, but percussion is not a melodic sound, and a keyboard is a melodic instrument, therefore I dont think it can be percussion.

Keyboards and pianos, in my opinion, dont belong in any string or percussion category.

  5. how would you class a xylophone(sp?) then?

  6. Definately percussion.

  7. Piano has no definate classification as either percussion or string. Some call it percussion, some call it string. It's debatable. Many say that it is a class of its own called 'piano'.

  8. Piano
