Not if you want the filter to work properly. You could use a speed controller to turn down the fan but at full power you may get some smell exhausted due to inadequate contact times.
Well I have the 440cfm fan and a 250cfm duct fan hooked up to the phresh filter at full power and there is no smell coming out at all its working really well actually
you can get away with that for a little while, but it will not last very long, i'd be surprised if you got 3 months out of it that way. sized properly, you should get a year or even two out of a good carbon filter.
I have a ideal air speed controller its cheap but it works good I got it off amazon for like 20 bucks
