photo or auto

  1. i've not spent much time debating this because i've been set on perpetual growing. i live in a state where the constitution doesn't thrive and they will put me in jail for growing a plant. so for that reason i have always ordered beans and then waited months before germination. now that there are legal states and i can order online without worrying about customs, i am considering switching to autos for the sole purpose of constant variety. what do you think blades?

  2. You can have constant variety with photos the same as you can with autos. I do. I grow both autos and photos but I prefer photos

  3. One of the most wonderful things about variety, is that you discover new things in this case phenos that you will love. Sadly, it's very hit and miss to get the same phenos with autoflowers, but with photo strains you can clone and re-run your favourites etc. I have often gone with the thinking that autos are easier, quicker smaller more convenient, but I've just flipped back the other way in my thinking. Photos are far more versatile. The only thing photos can't win on is speed I think. So imo, go with photo period strains.

  4. Simply dont clone photos if you want more variety or clone until you want to change. The prices of seed are pretty much the same between auto/ photo for the same strain from the same breeder. While you're at it do what I do, rodelization. That way you'll have free seeds for future grows and can bring the strain back at will.

  5. I too was just pondering this sane dilemma. Never grew an auto myself personally. But from the autos I do see from others grow journals here, they’ve come a LONG way. Some guys are pulling 5+ounces a plant. So I ask myself, why not run autos?

  6. I agree, grow autos, 24/0, anytime, plant a seed, harvest 100 days later, one at a time, anytime you want. You don't need to grow big monster photos. A little auto will get you stoned. Plant a seed for the morning, then one for the day, one for night, and look around for that special auto for Friday nights. Unless of course you were born on a 12/12 planet or need to save some elec.

  7. i just found out that i have too much light.. so.. i may set up a couple auto areas and try it out. can i grow autos under 3000k for their life? i know it probably isnt optimal but what do yall think?

  8. You most definetly could.

  9. Who says you have to grow monster photos? Grow them smaller. That's the cool thing about photos, you can grow them any size you want.

I grow both photos and autos.

  11. I grew photos, now I grow autos. Keep trying, photos is a bitch to kick for some. I found hydro helped.

  12. The only way you can control autos without stressing them (afaik) is pot size and lst. Now think of how many ways you can train photos because they get as much recovery time as they need.

  13. Auto's don't work well for me. You have no control when they flower so you can't control their size. I've also planted two auto's at the same time, same strain and they'll mature at different rates. Maybe it's just my bad luck but they don't seem to mature any faster than many photo's. Resetting my light timer isn't a big deal.

  14. It's not luck, it's brain wiring. It's not the timer that needs to be reset, it's your personality. Trauma, bad marriage, lost riches, and many other unkowns is what makes a grower go auto. I'm not able to control anything anymore, especially when a plant I rely on needs sombody to tell it when to flower. It should be telling me! And that's the nice thing about autos, they do. My motto: Wait long enough and somebody will make your mind up for you. In this case, the plant does all the decision making. I just work here, and they let you smoke on the job. Another vote for autos, that makes two.

  15. i am going to research short autos. i believe there is a ton of info here on gc about autos as well. can i grow autos under the 6500k t5? because i can veg and run autos under that in another closet and have 2 flowering chambers for photos for the 8 qb120 boards.

  16. man my thoughts become so fkn confusing when i type them out. is kelvin rating on lights as critical with autos? i can either use the 6500k t5 or the 3000k qb120s. whichever i choose will be for the life of the plant on 18/6 or 20/4.

  17. oh yeah, and the guy with a tent right by his bed should grow photos.

  18. i think this conversation got away from me.

  19. 3000k is fine germ to harvest. Like you said, just not optimal, but plenty have grown under all hps and 3000k is about the same. I'm starting a seed soon under 3000k because I only want to run one light this summer and I have a flowering plant that gets 3000k although I have also almost flowered all the way under 4000k. Only makes a difference when you are buying. They all grow once you own the light.
As for short genetics, I would not buy seeds listed as short. Those are bred to be short at all costs to other things you like and are more like novelty plants and very dissappointing based on my first short adventures. Height searching is a pain since the breeder is in a bind. If they don't give the tallest verified plant they are Lying? And some people in controlled hydro can present a very tall verified grow. My solution was mainlining. I can keep about anything below the magic 90cm those communists measure by. In America a mainlined auto in a one gallon bag is only 24 inches according to the queen.

  20. Ive always grown photos but have recently started to run autos, so far i like them, they fit into my current and future plans, theyre easy and practical. I cant say which i prefer i need to run more autos first. So far so good though.

Currently : id advise you to go try autos.
