Phone Companies Hate Us

  1. Okay I'm in college right now and I share a family plan through alltell. I have text messaging for 10c a pop which isnt too bad since i avoid it for the most part...maybe a few a month. Anyways I start getting these dumbass messages out of nowhere from some random number texting me "Love facts" HUG 2 People today and you wont get fucked in the ass by a polar bear. just stupid junior high shit.

So i just erased the messages without viewing them, since you have to look at them for a 10c charge...well they sent me two a day for four days in a row so i called my phone company and it turns out i have to pay $20 for these peoples "Services" for those messages. I get the fuckers number down and call...its an automated message system that starts out with a guy in a middle eastern accent "If you wish to cancel our service type your phone number in" and i did that pissed off. Then it said i could leave a message so i was going to ask where the fuck they got my number (I NEVER put my personal info on anything thats not completely legit) and it gave me literally 3 seconds and said "Thank you" ....wtf

alltell told me what they did was perfectly legal and they could do nothing about it because i someone gave someone/some 'business' my phone number. My mother then calls me up pissed off and i told her id pay it...i tried to leave another message to get an answer but it did the same thing. I still have no idea how the fuck they 'got my phone number'.

Its all too damn shady, im upset about getting sodomized by this 'business', should have acted sooner...had i known better i would have. just removed texting from my phone period.

  2. Are you kidding? Phone companies love us! We are the sole reason why they are around, and we are the sole reason why they make money. Ever wondered why every phone company has a buy 1 phone get 1 free deal? Because the $20 it cost them to give you the free phone is nothing compared to the extra $40 a month youll be giving them for the next 2 years. Phone companies dont give a shit about what we think or how we feel, as long as we are still giving them money.

  3. I started getting spam in my text messages last month too. I have been meaning to look for a way to block it or cancel any text messages period. I don't think the phone companys are going to be able to justify charging us all for spammed text messages.

  4. Exactly...

If they really cared about us rather than money then they would work to put the best and fairest product forward without trying to fuck you over for your money. all phone companies ive came across are pretty much the dealer that sells you that nice fibreglass MJ everyones been talking about (which hasnt reached the midwest as far as i know)

  5. Meanwhile, I'm still using quarters and pay phones like a sucka

  6. text message spam has been around in japan for a few years now and it's just now starting to reach the U.S.

    either:

    a) call your provider and tell them you only want to accept text messages from people on your address book.

    b) some phones have text message settings that allow you to set some parameters such as not automatically opening text messages, rather...displaying them in an inbox style so you can see who they came from and delete them before reading (even though most phones do this automatically, most phones first open and save the message, THEN display the text). If the text message is unread, most companies won't charge you. (T-mobile, cingular are like this)
