Philosophy is depressing.

  1. like for instance think about the fact that you will never know more than you dont know. no matter how much information you gather and retain in your life time you will never be able to reach the half way point in knowledge. honestly you will probably never even come close to knowing 1% of what there is to know. maybe like .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% but at the same time think about how much you know and what you can recall at any given time. the amount of knowledge that every living person holds is mind blowing. think about how much knowledge you recall every single day. you cant even count to that number. but you still dont know anything in the grand scheme of things.

  2. A lot to make up for...Guess we should keep on learning.

Hell, we will never make it, but might as well aim for it.

  3. This is why I semi-choose to stay in ignorance.
I'd rather be content not knowing what I don't know while I ingest massive quantities of meats, intoxicating substances and... ;)

  4. It would be worse if we had all the answers.

    I'm awe-driven.

  5. I totally agree, besides what would be the point if we had all the answers? That's pretty much game over.

  6. In a way, it's when we truly start. It's kind of like someone reading you the rules of a board game, and then you begin the game.

  7. It'd be a lot more depressing if we did have all the answers.

What would we do with ourselves? Things like subtlety would be useless.

At least strive to know the basics of societies fundamental problems (read: Plato's The Repbulic).

Go with the flow and learn that no matter what you'll do, you'll always be thick as brick.

  8. I've often thought that if I can just know when I don't know something, it will be almost as good as knowing it.

And everyone is always looking for the answers. When the reality is, there is no way to change the world, as imperfect as it is. The answers are up to you. What do you want out of your life?

  9. Philosophy is the opposite of depressing; it's exciting. It makes me want to get up in the morning, to learn about others and the world we live in. Nothing like it.

  10. Werd I agree, Life is a mystery and spurts many insightful questions day by day. I feel like philosophy has increased my spiritual intelligence instead of religion.

  11. How do you know this? ;)

  12. In my way of thinking, knowledge isn't a quantitative thing where you could theoretically 'know everything', or claim to know a certain fraction of the knowledge that there is to know. Its not like the universe outside of your head is full of facts, waiting to be discovered. The concepts of knowledge and ignorance only exist within the human mind. Knowledge is relative I guess is what I'm trying to say. I think...

  13. The only reason its depressing is because of desire. You desire the knowledge, understanding, information, and analysis of the Universe; and thus you become depressed at its seeming impossibility. Remove that desire, however, and you will become enlightened; all that needs to be, already is.
