I never liked him. It's poker, you lose your money sometimes, I hate seeing him lose a big hand and cry like a bitch about it for the rest of the time on the table. Incredibly annoying.

I think Ivy and Dwan are better than him, as are many others

 

I don't get how you can say one player is better than another when a large majority of the game is pure luck...

The Poker Brat is awesome. I agree he gets carried away, but it's entertaining to watch, and he's a good player.

 

OMG everytime I see this doosh I just wanna punch him. He's so incredibly disrespectful and full of himself. Such a shame to see so much talent wasted on a big crybaby.

Obviously Helmuth has lots of personal flaws, but the dude has a job doing what he loves and makes a shit ton of money for it. Poker isn't a beauty pageant, it's meant to entertain. And when that cocky sonofabitch arrives at the WSP in a throne wearing a crown and is surrounded by babes who can't find that just a little funny?

 

I personally think its entertaining to watch him make a fool of himself and still be able to win poker. That's a true professional poker player. Making it entertaining to watch him play poker.

 

Phil acts the way he does for the game and for the tv production and ratings, he does a damn good job at it.

there is so much strat in poker, way more than luck...to prove that annette obrestad played an 180 man sit n go, and won it only looking at her cards a few times..obviously it was micro stakes, but still, that shows how much skill/reading is involved.

exactly. It's his way of advertising. People who don't give a damn about poker will watch because they like watching people be outrageous and make fools of themselves.

 

I'm really surprised that some people actually do get it. Yes, the "poker brat" persona Phil Hellmuth portrays is absolutely 100% staged for the cameras. It turns out he's actually a realy nice guy, and very personable. Maybe he can be judged slightly for using that act to make money, but I'll happily admit that I would do the exact same thing if it meant an increased cashflow from advertising. Add that to still being one of the most respected poker players in the country (by the players who actually know him), and he's laughing all the way to the bank.

 

Oh yeah, Phil is a huge whiner! SO overated! I like Dwan; he may make some really questionable moves, but he never whines when they don't work for him.
