pheno hunting... will she be purple??

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Laucass83, Jan 1, 2020.

  1. alright shes still a seedling but I have been watching her closely. Second set of leaves is turning purple and there is no environnement reason to cause that. So... will she be purple? Am I too optimistic?? Strain is Super Kush from Phoenix. It is even more obvious with a jeweler loupe.

  2. Since a Phenotype is the expression of genes in a specific environnement, can you trigger purple colour by giving the plant too much light?

  3. Purple coloring comes from low temps with basically all weed( at least every strain I've grown) amd some strains just have strong purple genes breed into them. C4 auto from fastbudz is a good example I grew it over the summer and even with my temps being in the 80s it still was solid purple buds

  4. Most purple strains I've seen you can't see purple until flower. Some require low temps and lack of water to really make them turn.

  9. That does not mean you have a purple strain.

  10. I’ve been looking into purples and I’ve seen two types. Buds that start and finish purple, then ones that start green and turn purplish later. You may be onto something about too much light though.... or light playing a role.... I’ve ran two runs with this equipment and both runs have had plants in the same locations turning purple. Different strains. I’m gearing up the third flower run so I’m interested to see. Now I don’t KNOW this, but I feel like these locations would be the warmest area of my tent. Idk man.

  11. Had some blueberry cookie auto seedlings start off just like what yours is doing then it went away, but the purple came back in the upper leaves and top colas 2 weeks from finish. Bottom portion of the colas no purple and lower nuggs were not purple. Pic was chop day.

  12. beautifull!!!

  13. the leaves have grown and the purple shade is now more subtil and spread on the whole blades. Next sets of leaves do not show any purple. Only thing I sure is that plant have enough anthocyanin to show some purple!

    No.
My understanding is consistent with the other users that have replied. Generally, purple colors are present either in the flowers themselves and/or in the foliage as a variant of "fall colors." The plant gets purple because it thinks winter is coming. A plant getting strong light will be green, and start to yellow if it's too strong.
You emphatically do not want your vegetating plant, who happily believes it is spring, to think winter is around the corner. It's one of the few risk factors I can think of that is worse for plants in veg than it is in flowering plants.
Don't sweat the color. The plant knows what it's doing, just keep it healthy and happy.

  15. I have a NL strain that the phenotype of them show all kinds of pinks and purples right from soil break, I first thought it was temps and whatnots causing this but 3rd round from seed and again I know what 2 out of the 3 NL I have going now will be purple when done. Really nice looking when trimmed. 20191007_143515.jpg 20191006_230038.jpg

    Where is this strain from?

  17. It's a NL crossed with a Cannatonic. Happened a couple seasons ago by mistake, but I enjoy it so much I kept the strain going.

  18. My Northern Lights are shit compare to yours! Do you remember the breeder original seeds came from?

  19. They started out as NL #3. And due to a huge mistake they ended up pollinated by a Cannatonic male, giving tons of seeds of the cross. That was 2 summers ago now. I must have at least 500 seeds left from that episode.

  20. Hand trimmed? How long does it take ya to trim.. say half a pound?

Looks a million times better than my trim job, and takes me like 40 hours for just a few plants.
