So we had this discussion before but with so many articles and discussions here on the forum and others as well I fell like there's still no sure way of even knowing how to properly ph soil what ever the method but a couple I'd like to discuss is testing soil in water so my question is how do you actually collect a sample from the root zone to begin with also when using a ph tester that has a probe is it better to test in dry or wet soil cause I got two different readings from wet vs dry but what is the correct reading wet or dry and my favorite what are some fortune ways to lower or raise ph Sent from my SM-G781U using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I don't use Ph much preferring to use PPm's (parts per million) you can use pints but I use liters I take 1 liter of soil(from the rootzone gentle like and mix with 2 liters of clean ph'ed ro water, shake like hell for 2 -3 minutes strain it out into a sterile cup insert TDS and take a read. it may give me a reading of 109ppm for a plant that is 2weeks old thats ok but low, for a plant thats 6 inches high it should read about 400ppm so I'll keep adding poop to the value of 291ppms, thats a very exaggerated reading but just a example and so on up to a plant thats about 4 feet tall needing a reading of 1500-1600ppm
Yes but how do you take sample from root zone on potted plant you not telling me you pulling your plant out you pot are you Sent from my SM-G781U using Grasscity Forum mobile app
the probe ph meters do not work! as long as your feed going in is in the 6 range and runoff is in the 6 range i would not worry much just feed as directed on your feed and the main thing is to let your pots dry out completely between waterings when you are in flower it helps a lot because if you mixed your soil by hand there could be hot pockets here and there so 1 reading could be way off I always just go with my runoff numbers
true i guess you have to know the sweet spot where they are dry but not yet bone dry the guys from greenhouse seeds in amsterdam swear by it in their videos at least in flower but they could be wrong I try to let them dry out anyways usually in late flower they drink a lot so it is easy but thats just me
4-6 inches down, 4-6 inches out from the plant, you gotta see the soil sets the ph, the soil and its bugs work as one, I'm, an organic (KNF) type grower. which means if you have enough soil in the pot, 5 us gallons! the soil should repair any issue but overtime, you can help it along with flushing with ph'ed water ..IMO
